Just read this article about the long awaited University Town Center. Plan is for the mall to have 2 stories, 115 stores, and be enclosed.

Saks, Macy's and Dillard's anchors for University Town Center | Business | Bradenton Herald

It sounds like the University mall will be a copy of the Westfield - too bad they are not bringing any new anchors in. Tho I shop at Macy's I wouldn't consider it high end.

Why do people loves malls so much? To me, they are the epitome of bad American-ness.

Ick, malls.

Sorry. Carry on.

Personally, I have to agree but my wife and daughter seem to enjoy them.

I was hoping for Nordstroms, Bloomingdales and Lord & Taylor. I miss the NY stores.

I'm a little disappointed that it will be a standard mall and not an outdoor "lifestyle center" as was originally planned. I like the lifestyle center concept and enjoy the ones in our area in Ohio except during the winter...which makes it a perfect concept for Florida. So I pretty much feel ho hum about this project. Hope the smaller stores they bring in will be new to the area.

Sue, you are probably thinking in terms of our winter weather. In summer, the mall style that duplicates a "downtown environment" can be a problem when it is hot or rainy. It wouldn't be much fun to walk from store to store and browsing windows in that case. OTOH, I don't like doing that stuff anyway so maybe I'm being a bit too dramatic.

I wish they'd put in a Basspro Shop at the mall.
