I hope this doesn't sound mean but renting a house down here sight unseen is a bad idea. Also a lot of the good houses never advertise. Is there any way you could head down for a short trip?
Blue Herons - not mean at all and we wouldn't rent sight unseen either. I have a realtor that is willing to look at properties for us and we most likely will make a trip down at some point before moving.
I saw the house you are talking about. Osprey isn't too far. It would be farther for you to school than it would be for your husband to work at Stickney Point Rd. Basically, at Stickney Point, he would turn left to go onto the key & you would turn right & travel the whole length of Clark Rd (Stickney Point) past I-75 to school. That is where your time will add up. Clark isn't horrible but there are many stoplights & traffic can be bad during season.
On the bedroom situation, you could always do twin bunk beds & then 1 extra twin bed on the other side of the room. But I totally understand wanting that extra bedroom if you can

Pixi - we actually have a bunk bed already with a double on the bottom (my boys are twins and want to sleep together) and a single on top so if it boils down to it we could do a two bedroom for awhile. We are just moving from a two story, 4 bedroom home so moving into a two bedroom condo would be quite an adjustment I have learned never to say never though!
Are you familiar with Osprey at all? Is the area decent? I checked it out on walkscore but couldn't really get a feel for what it's like.

One thing to keep in mind with Florida is you will spend a lot of time using outdoor spaces. Lanai's (patio's & decks) become part of your every day living space. Not like up north where you are crammed inside together all winter. You can function on less interior space that way.
Funny, my kids have those exact beds too
I have a friend who is doing the same as you. She only has 2 kids but they moved here from out west & are in the process of building. For now though, they have way downsized from the house they came from & are in a small condo until their house is finished. She told me though she dreaded it, it hasn't been too bad. They spend a lot of time outside so she doesn't feel cramped. They have most of their stuff in storage until the house is finished. Reminding herself that it's only temporary...
Osprey- it's small & is kind of one of those 'quick drive through' towns. There is a small strip of shopping on 41, a super walmart, a post office & some small boutiques. There are a few subdivisions, varying side streets of homes & the Oaks club. I would consider Osprey safe & it's just a couple of minutes to Sarasota. It's not really an area where you would walk to things. You'll be getting in the car & driving to pretty much everything. Hope that helps!
Mbb28, if you can get into any of those condo/homes located in Palmer Ranch, like the ones PixiStix posted you would have a nicer setting for the family. I not to long ago came from riding with a friend where we dropped off another friend who is staying, temporarily, at the Beneva Place apts, talk about false advertising, that place for anyone considering moving there, in her words , NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't do it. The place looked very little like the advertisment, I mean hardly anything like the advertisement. They're not using actual pics, those are painted pictures in the ads.
Do give Palmer Ranch a try if you find any reasonable rentals, the friend mentioned them as a good option too.
Use this map to get travel distances for the school, I might have the wrong school, but you can change the address.

I agree, I thought those condos were pretty nice for the price. Just thinking as a mom, with school runs & the hubby's drive, shopping & safety, it would be my pick in this situation.
Consider they offer-
Community ammenities include Heated Pool & Jacuzzi, , Fitness Center, Billiard Room, Conference Room w/Internet Access & Small Library, Playground, Grills, Picnic Areas.
Again, you have the option of being out & about with things to do so hopefully it will offset a smaller living arrangement. But ultimately it's not my decision
I really liked the two bedroom condos but hubby needs his space and said no way! He is my problem with rental hunting I found a couple new places today that I emailed so we'll see. The place in Osprey is available, I heard back, but would still prefer to live closer to Siesta Key/Palmer Ranch if possible.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the help!
Well I've sent emails to a couple of places in Palmer Ranch and haven't heard back so we'll see. It looks like we are shooting to come down the weekend of July 6th to look at places so hopefully something will come up soon.
We are definitely coming down the weekend of the 6th now. We fly in on the 6th and leave on the 8th. Can anyone recommend a place to stay, preferrably near Siesta Village, for two night? I found two places but one is booked and the other has a three night minumum. Also, how do you suggest we go about looking for places to rent while we are down there that may not be advertised?
I hope you are all holding up during the tropical storm!
