I myself found something weird when I went out to my car one morning. The little drawer in the console was open, and the car-wash card and some other minor thing were on the car seat. I couldn't imagine how that happened.....I did not recall opening the drawer, leaving anything on the seat, or leaving the car unlocked. However, later I realized the battery in my key fob was going dead, so maybe I THOUGHT the car was locked but it wasn't. In any event, nothing was taken but it is disconcerting to think people are running around our development while we're all asleep.
Disconcerting? Appalling more like.

So apparently many of the posters here come from places where this is what the local police force looks like:

That's all well and good, really, but saying that Sarasota is a "dangerous" or--ahem--"crappy" city is simply ludicrous. I'm sorry, but this stuff is out of hand.

Is Sarasota is 'dangerous' being compared to it worse than living in the middle of the Everglades or slighly less than living in Chicago with 6 murders a day where little girls get killed selling lemonade? I lived in NYC for decades. The crime I see reported here is nothing and is not something I worry about. I don't live in a gated community or have a burglar alarm on my house. I don't have my property lit up at night with flood lights. And I don't find it necessary to send extra money to FPL to have my garage lights on for 10 hours a night.
I don't suffer from the false paranoia of my neighbors.

Look, if you like where you live, ignore these stupid posters. If you don't like where you live, move. Nobody twisted your arm or forced you to sign the papers, so get over it.
