We fly into PIE and always rent a car to drive to Nokomis. Avis you can prepay online and it's usually cheaper. This month the Hertz is cheapest. It also depends on the time of year for the rates. One way drop off is always more expensive but it's the most convenient for us. Avis & Hertz are on US41 bypass, Venice. We just drop off the next day. We do the reverse for the trip back. Next year we will be down for good!! :-)

Have searched all google references and can't find inexpensive option-supershuttle is lowest at $80. But just booked a Budget Rental car for $43 to Tampa and $40.72 for the return. On the return I specified that I'd just have the car for 6 hours and that made a significant difference. I also have a budget corporated discount, but the discount is the same as AARP.

it must be very hard to have to do all that reading of the prior postings. Let me get my spreadsheet program out and put in all the variables as mentioned above, and crunch some numbers and get back to you as soon as i can.

There is a company in Venice that does shuttle vans to airport. I think the name is Hurricane Limo or Hurricane Airport Shuttle or something like that. I know it started with Hurricane. I saw one of their vans on the road the other day..looked to be pretty new and pretty nice.

Coming from the PNW, and I can get a decent flight to Tampa but it seems like getting to Sarasota is the issue
I'm unfamiliar with the area and don't want to rent a car

THANK you for that information; still, after a tiring cross country trip of about 10 hours or more, I don't want the bother of having to drive another hour or more. I'll look into getting a flight into SRQ
if available.
