Just got back from NY. Flew Southwest out of Tampa. First time with this airline and felt like we were in a subway at rush hour! As you board the plane, the flight attendant says, "the first empty seat has your name on it."

Between the car to Tampa and the flight, cost about $1,000 for the two of us. Was the best deal we could find.

Depends on when you are flying. Any holiday? Very expensive. First week in January? Cheap.

Based on a tip I read somewhere about when the best prices can be had --18 to 21 days before the day you want to travel -- I bought a ticket for this coming Wednesday, JFK to Fort Meyers, three weeks ago. It was $102. I just checked and the same flight now is $242.

I also I waited a week and then bought the return flight, Miami to JFK, for Dec. 11. It cost $88, and the same flight today is $272, though there are a couple of flights available for $102-$104, at dawn and midnight, so probably not very popular anyway.

Boy am I congratulating myself this morning!!!

Did you use a specific website to get those fares, or the airlines directly, when they had specials? Thanks & congrats !

i watch the deals. a few weeks ago jfk>srq & srq>jfk for $80 on Jetblue for this week. the plans fell through unfortunately . flights are more expensive on mon and tuesday. when i get an email deal i go for it! and plan ahead for holidays.

macynyc - watch the deals and start flying jetblue from sarasota. you'll be happier. i went to NY in July and September. sarasota to JFK, Laguardia to Sarasota. $80 each way. No driving to Tampa. No Hassles. Southwest is a flying bus.

MacyNY said Southwest is like the subway but i think it's more like a crappy city bus!
