Interested in learning about this topic from folks who have experience in this matter. Would like to hear your thoughts and experiences, good or bad. I am retiring soon and this appears to be a reasonable option for housing. Also, any thoughts/ideas on the social/dating scene for a 62 year young, straight male would be appreciated. Thanks!

Go to Mobile Home Village and you can read about the different mobile home parks. www.mhvillage.com

My parents live in a 55+ mobile home park in Punta Gorda and have been there over 10 years. The always lived in a regular single family home in NY but moved here part time and loved the community so much, they decided to make it a permanent move.

You are going to need bear repellent to keep the women off you. Prepare to have a lot of fun dating

Hey - that's just what I'm looking for. I'll be reading your posts! I got some good info. from Grandmallie. I think it's quite affordable in the Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte area too. Don't know about the dating scene for me but good luck in that area. I'm sure you won't have any problems since the number of women in Florida is far greater than the men - LOL.

Get yourself a convertible, bottle of suntan oil , a nice looking tropical looking shirt, about 15 copies of your keys to your home, and you'll be a regular Don Juan

Ask about the yearly ground rent fee's !..how often can they go up. My Mom has lived in a 55+ community and her ground rent is over $4000 a year. With home prices as low as they are, it would have been cheaper to own a home and pay the taxes.
