Mario Andretti was in Bradenton on Monday at the grand opening of a tire store by Lakewood Ranch. Since we were going to be out that way anyway, of course we had to stop and meet the world famous champion race driver. As my husband was quick to point out, Mario won both the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500 and he was one of only two drivers to win races in 4 different auto racing categories -- Formula One, Indy Car, World Sportscar Championship and NASCAR. Mr. Andretti was gracious and patiently signed autographs for everyone, along with posing for photographs. I took this one while he was being interviewed by the local radio station.

The other big news tonight was that the city of Sarasota has granted Nik Wallenda permission to do a high wire walk (without a safety tether) in Sarasota next Monday, Jan. 28th, at 10:30 am -- that is, if the FL DOT agrees they can block off US41 by the bayfront for the wire walk. I missed Nik's last high wire walk in Sarasota and hope we get the opportunity to watch him in Sarasota on Monday.

I say "meh" to Wallenda. I give him credit for making a living doing what he loves, but I think he should keep it in the circus arena.

Nik will be performing tomorrow night a Circus Sarasota. It's closed to the public and only open to the circus performers and their friends and family. One of my agents (who was a trapeze artist and owned elephants) is taking me and two of my girls. It should be a pretty fun event. Starting Friday night it is open to the public.
