Lots of great things to do this weekend in and around the Sarasota - Bradenton area and most of them are at little cost, some free.
To start things off, tonight is the monthly
Live from Downtown Sarasota it's Friday Night's live music in downtown Sarasota 6 - 9 pm at various places, including Palm Avenue and Main St at Five Points Park. Also
Music on Main, Lakewood Ranch from 6 - 9 pm. Food & beverage proceeds to benefit the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy program. Live music, lots of fun things for the kids, you can bring your pets on short leashes but leave the coolers at home.
Today thru Sunday,
Sarasota Shell Club's Shell Show, at the Bradenton Convention Center in Palmetto (just over the 1st St bridge at Haben Blvd). Adults $6, kids under 12 free. Today 12:30 - 5, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-4.

Bradenton Farmers Market , downtown Bradenton 9 am - 2 pm.

Bradenton Beer Festival , downtown Bradenton on Old Main St, 4 - 8 pm. Over 80 beers for tasting, plus food trucks and vendors. Beer tasting included in $30/adult tickets, food extra. Proceeds help the Manatee Animal Services.

Sarasota Highland Games & Celtic Festival , Sarasota fairgrounds on Ringling, 9 am - 6 pm. If you've never been, this is a must do event at least once. Bagpipe bands, highland games & dancing, celtic music performances, great fun. Adults $12, kids under 12 free.
Saturday - Selby Public Library's
Band Bash , 5:30 - 11 pm at the library in downtown Sarasota. Concert event for teens.
Saturday & Sunday -
Winterfest Arts & Crafts Show , Phillippi Estate Park on south Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, 10 am - 4:30 pm. Free admission. Food vendors and craft/art dealers from several states will be there.
Saturday & Sunday -
Big Cat Habitat's Animal Extravaganza , shows at 1:30 & 4:30 pm, 7101 Palmer Blvd in Sarasota, adults $18, kids $7. Proceeds help support the big cat habitat program.

Oops! Almost forgot one of the big annual events, and I drive by their sign several times a week.
St. Barbara's Greek Church is holding their annual Greek Glendi Festival next weekend, February 7th - 10th. They are located at the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and Tallevast Road in south Manatee county, just north of University Parkway.
This festival is huge, with lots of good tasting Greek food, Greek wines & beers, pastries, music and Greek dancers. They also has a kids fun zone with lots of things for the little ones to do.
FYI, if you've recently moved into a neighborhood north of Lockwood Ridge or the west side of Palm Aire and use Lockwood Ridge Rd, you may want to look for alternative routes for the weekend as traffic jams up at that intersection on festival weekend.
