Just talked to my family up in the midwest, the weather forecast there is rain off and on all weekend and they had lows last night in the 40's.

We however are supposed to have beautiful sunny weather this weekend AND, if Bob the weather man is to be believed, lower humidity so the temps will feel nice. Sounds like perfect weather to get out and enjoy some of the special events in our area this weekend.

Saturday is the Venice Brew Bash, 80+ craft and imported beers for tasting, tickets $40 at the door, $30 in advance, ages 21 & over, 4 - 8 pm in downtown Venice.

Sunday is the Pickin' Picnic at the Bradenton Riverwalk ampitheater. Lots of local bands providing music, bring your own picnic or buy from vendors on site, 11 am - 10 pm, free!

Sunday is also the big Tribute to Heroes Parade in Lakewood Ranch on Main street, starts at 6:00 pm. The parade will include floats, marching bands and veterans groups. BBQ & beer, live music, bike decorating contest for the kids, etc. People are asked to bring toiletries or non-parishable food items to be sent to active military overseas.

For something different, the Pier 22 restaurant on the riverfront in Bradenton is having a big Hawaiian Luau on Sunday starting at 5 pm, with a big pig roast, limbo contest and fire dancers.

On Monday is the big parade in downtown Sarasota on Main street, starting at 10 am. Marching bands, veterans groups, etc with a ceremony following the parade to honor our military heroes.

Starting at 5 pm on Monday is a Memorial Day concert at Phillippi Park on US41 in Sarasota, adults $5, 12 & under free, bring your lawn chairs and coolers, food & beverages for sale will be available.

Venice is also hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at Patriots Park at 10 am on Monday.

Also on Monday is the Myakka River Blues Festival, 11 am - 7 pm, in Venice at 5000 E Venice Ave, $10/ticket.

A little out of our area but worth noting, The Pier in St. Pete closes to the public after this weekend, so they are having a number of events there over the weekend to "go out with a bang." For those who have not been following the stories on The Pier, the city is planning to have the current upside down pyramid torn down and it will be replaced with a new pier that they are calling the lens.

Thanks Sunshine! I'm definitely going to the Myakka Blues Fest at Snook Haven on Saturday. If you like Chet Atkins/Jorma fingerstyle guitar my buddy George Worthmore is playing there around 12:30. He's a great player.
