Ohh don't get me started on the concept of dieting. I'm just surprised because diet fads come and go so quickly. Seems like I heard about gluten-free diets 2-3 years ago. It should've run its course by now.

If it would help with this spare tire I'd jump right on that bandwagon

The reason it's stuck around and probably will continue to do so is that it's not really a weight loss diet. It's just basically eliminating an ingredient that some peoples bodies don't digest well. A very small percentage of people are actually allergic to it but there are many people who don't tolerate it well. My wife feels much better when she avoids it. When she does eat some bread or pasta she'll take an enzyme supplement to help digest it. Much like people with lactose intolerance. When you eat something you don't digest well it can can have all sorts of negative consequences. I do all the cooking in my house and I've gotten pretty adept at cooking around it and don't use many of specifically prepared foods. Like when we have mexican food we have corn tortillas instead of flour. Cosimos restaurant on Clark does a pretty good gluten free wood oven pizza FYI.

This isn't a diet! It is a health condition. My granddaughter was diagnosed with celiac disorder. She is a child.

As Macy pointed out, it's not a fad for everyone, it's the only diet some people can live with. My husband was diagnosed with Celiac Disease almost 6 years ago. Here in Madison, Wisconsin it's much easier to find gluten free products as well as many more restaurants that have gluten free options. We're always surprised when we're in Florida how much harder it is to find gluten free stuff. Not impossible, but a lot harder than up here. Don't know why.

Ohh I get that. I'm sorry to assume it was for dietary purposes, but my experience is most people on a gluten-free diet are doing it for weight loss rather than a medical condition.
