The super boats return to Sarasota for a week's worth of festivities that start on Saturday. You can find full information on the web site www.suncoastoffshore.org, but here are the highlights of the festivities:


Saturday, 6/29

Grand Prix Golf Classic at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club, starts at 8 am, fees to participate.


Sunday, 6/30

car show at Lakewood Ranch's Main street, 10 am - 3 pm

boat "fun run" on Sarasota Bay - meet up at the Bearded Clam waterfront restaurant at 11 am


Monday, 7/01

Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament at Sarasota Kennel Club, 6:30 pm, fees for participants


Tuesday, 7/02

Friendliest Catch Outing for physically & mentally challenged, by invitation only, City Island 9:00 am - 1:30 pm

Nautical Night of Giving Fundraiser, at the Sarasota Yaught Club, 6 - 10 pm, $125 per person. Food, cocktails and auction.


Wednesday, 7/03

Flemings Fan Fest with local race teams, Flemings restaurant, 5 - 8 pm, free admission, cash bar.


Thursday, 7/04

Fireworks at the Sarasota Bayfront Park at dusk, approximately 9 pm


Friday, 7/05

Powerboats by the Bay, Centennial Park, 12 - 5 pm, free admission (no pets or coolers), powerboats on display, live entertainment, vendors.

Festival Parade of Boats, downtown Sarasota, 7 pm. Starts at US301 & Gulfstream, parade route down Main street to the site of the block party.

Boats by the Bay downtown block party, 5 pm to midnight, free admission. See the race boats up close, meet the race teams, live music, food vendors, located between Orange & Pineapple Aves.


Saturday, 7/06

Meet & Greet the Drivers, 10:30 am - noon, Hyatt Regency ballroom, 12 & under free, adults $5, drivers will be signing autographs.

Powerboats by the Bay, Centennial Park, 10 am - 8 pm, free admission (no pets or coolers), live music all day. 3 pm is the bikini contest.

Motorcycle Charity Ride, registration at 9:30 am at 5899 Whitfield Ave, ride will end at Centennial Park with a bike show.

Pre-Race Party & Fashion Show, party 6 - 11 pm, Hyatt Regency ballroom, swimwear fashion show at 7:30 pm, $15 per person at the door, casual dress.


Sunday, 7/07

BOAT RACES, Lido Beach, 2 heats of racing at 11 am & 1 pm. SNN always carries live coverage for those that don't want to get up at dawn & head out to the beach to stake out their spot on the beach.



Proceeds from the various events go to local charities, this is a major fundraiser for them, so if you can, slap on some sunscreen and head out to a few of the activities to show your support.

Would you know if they allow boaters to anchor out to watch the races ?

They have in the past so I would assume so. Last year there were at least 100 boats on the south end of the oval that the boats race around. The SRQ county police boat will keep you away from certain areas but it will be obvious where you can anchor and watch.

Don't forget, tonight is the parade and party downtown, Saturday the boats on display at the bay front and races Sunday.
