I do notice that pet hair and dirt show up more on darker floors - you would think it would be the opposite but not so.

sort of like lint on black clothes.

The nice thing about hickory is it has the pink and yellow veins in it so it should hide dirt better than a more mono chromatic wood.

Where is everyone seeing these pictures at? As I read through the posts several people commented on pictures but I didn't see any?

Those tile are beautiful and timeless. To replace with colloquial wood, which will be damaged by everything from a dog claw to a high heel, seems nearly criminal.

At least you aren't covering up beautiful terrazzo with cheap tile like my crazy father-in-law did.

Finally back with the follow up/result - (notice the goofy stairs to nowhere are gone!) - we are still moving in and the decorating is a work in progress - but one thing at a time. I'm working towards a British Colonial/West Indies vibe or at least that flavor if not in total. I know the brown nailhead couches and red leather club chairs are far off the mark, but it's what we have for now.

Golden retriever pet hair does show up very quickly, but with the right vac setup it's easy to maintain. (A whole other thread)
So far, she has't made a single mark on the floor - it's very hard and she doesn't scamper all over either being a 9 year old.

Looks absolutely gorgeous. Besides the stairway to no where, I notice the kitchen soffit is gone too.

Very nice.

It looks awesome! Thanks for posting a photo update. It is so much more inviting now without the white tile and mustard walls!
