I thought I read that Benderson was building a new mall in NP by Toledo and Cranberry. I think it was in the Herald Tribune a few years ago. Did that happen?

I think you are talking about the Cocoplum plaza which is located on 41 at Salford. It was the largest commercial development in Sarasota County last year. Stores include Bealls, Ross, TJ Max, Hobby Lobby, Ulta beauty store, Publix, Panera bread, 5 guys, and a number of smaller shops. Cranberry and Toledo do not meet.

I think cranberry and Toledo do meet, the north end of cranberry goes left to the I75 entrance to the right is Toledo blade if I'm not mistaken but there is no mall there. Directly across from cranberry at the intersection there is a housing development if you drive way back in there, I don't knowif it was ever completed.

I could be wrong but that is my route to 75.

OK you are correct NPhomeowner, I had a brain freeze. North Cranberry and Toledo do meet close to I-75.

I googled it and it is a Benderson project that was approved in 2010 and it is supposed to be 2 X as big as Ellenton Outlet Mall and said they planned on starting it in 2010.

I am wondering if they put it on hold since they are working on the University Park Mall in Sarasota.

The good news is that Benderson has bought land in NP. The demographics and urban development studies had to look good or they would not have bought.

Thanks, I was just wondering if they had built it already.

Hmm that's interesting - they usually put outlets in the more rural areas and there are a lot of young families moving into North Port - wondering if it is really going to happen?

No, it's not going to be an outlet. Sorry, I knew that was confusing the way I wrote it. They just used that as means to let the reader know the size of the shopping.

They said they were breaking ground in 2010 so obviously that is not happening.

I would think it is because Benderson got involved in the rowing development as well as the mall ended up going forward. So maybe they will start NP next year when this one is completed.

I remember that when it was in the newspaper. It was supposed to be a huge mall across from Cranberry on the other side of Toledo Blade near I-75. Haven't heard any updates in many years. I wasn't sure if it was going to be near Plantation Blvd where it comes out across from Cranberry which runs through Cypress Falls at the Woodlands and Lakeside Plantation or whether it was supposed to be on the other side of I-75 near North Port Estates.

The commercial area to the north of Plantation Blvd is owned by Huntington National Real Estate Investments, LLC. in Bradenton. If you go to the north of that on the other side of I-75 the land is owned by Carlton Sarasota LLC. in Tampa. They are both listed as Agricultural Grazing Land.
