My husband and I have been looking for a home Sarasota-Bradenton and are having a bit of difficulty with finding a neighborhood that has good schools but will allow you to have privacy fencing and pets on a 1/2 acre or better. It appears that the HOA's are very restrictive - any suggestions - we have tried Mill Creek, Country Creek, River Club, Oakford Glen, Panther Preserve .

Foxbrook near Parrish would be one........ The problem is your 1/2 acre of land is more land than most communities offer.

North Port is in the southern part of Sarasota County and has good schools. You can get a home on a double lot in North Port that has no deed restrictions and allows pets and fences or North Port Estates is another option. There are two I-75 exits in North Port, one on Sumter and one on Toledo Blade. Not sure where your employment is and if that would be too far to travel to work. Very few deed restricted communities have 1/2 acre lots. Most are very small. Many do not allow pets or fences as you have already found out.

It would help to have a little more information regarding your pet situation -- how many are we talking about? Four, seven, ten? Or more? Are they cats, dogs or do you have something more exotic or that would be considered farm animals, such as chickens? As you have found out, some communities are more restrictive, but there are other neighborhoods that may work for you in the Sarasota - Bradenton area, depending upon the pet situation.

Thanks for the North Port suggestion but it makes it over an hour for the commute - and I am talking 6 dogs - Dalmatians and Cavaliers- all show dogs. It seems that if there is no pet limit - there is a fencing restriction such as 4 ft not privacy, if a fence is allowed there is a pet limit.

Have you looked at Mote Ranch in the University Park area? Their fees are low but I'm not sure about their pet restrictions.

Go inland as far away as your willing to drive to work and see whats for sale outside of any developments. You may be able to find something on a acre. Check and see what the county code enforcement is before you buy anything. Even if you buy something with no restrictions it may be against county code enforcement with 6 dogs. If you can go just into Hardee or Desoto county their rules are not as strict as Manatee and Sarasota. Thats one of the reasons I moved inland. There must be a group you can contact of people that own show dogs in the area that could offer some advice. Good Luck
