Crime rose this month on Anna Maria Island/Holmes Beach (Tampa: home, safe)

We had a dead body turn up, our first homicide of the year, found on Monday...A girl, fresh out of rehab and today, a woman was shot this morning in an island mail store. They caught the man on the beach & ended up shooting him three times when he brought forth a gun on the MCSO.

I hate to be negative; usually nothing happens on Anna Maria due to the impossibility of escape. Only three roads on/off the island and they'll open the bridges in these extreme situations.

Crime seems to be up everywhere lately; online Tampa Tribune had some shootings, and a dead body turning up by the river, and even in Asheville, NC where we have our second home they have had 3 shootings in a week! And this is usually a safe little city. It's getting scary out there!

I truly think it's "that time of the year". Money is tight and due to substance abuse in any form, people go insane at the drop of an ash...very scary...

AMI is my old home so I get a bit tripped out seeing the bad news in respect to an island that people have basically kept unchanged since the 70's.

We should just stay inside until after New Year's!

Wow, I am suprised, but I guess that could happen even in the nicest and quietest of towns.

Strangely enough, we had a jail photo of the dead woman front & center of our daily papers but they have yet to publish a head shot of either the victim or the gunman...pretty typical for AMI.

Guess it's going to be an interesting tourist season on the island; when packing your beach bag, don't forget your glock & permit.
