I have had three trips to either my TX GP or the new Sarasota walk-in clinic in Venice since last part of Feb for what I thought was sinus infection which started in TX not here in FL-- first two visits I got antibiotics--first time also a steriod--but I wasn't having the wheezing I have now--
third time the PA said wasn't bacterial but viral or allergies and RX a puffer and another 5 days of prednisone...

don't think it is really over although I have more days on the puffer left...

had bad spell of allergic bronchitis or some type of asthma more than 10 yrs ago (maybe even reaction to some cleaning chemical fumes) which took forever to tame---
this is not as bad but makes me concerned about long-term effects or susceptibility to reinfection--

If you have had something similar would you recommend an allergist/ENT or a pulmonologist for specific evaluation...and would it make more sense to find one in this area if this is causing the wheezing--
know that is asking a lot of subjective assessment--

we are due to be here for another couple of weeks, but we don't have a primary care doctor in this area--
haven't needed any medical treatment in past 10 yrs we have visited except when we were in car accident (totaled a rental at Stickney Pt and 41 when someone ran a red light on us) a couple of years ago and luckily had just bangs and bruises...
We are both on Medicare with secondary ins through my TX teacher retirement--which seems to be doing OK for us at this point...

Every time we go to FL from Texas, our sinus problems clear up. Texas has some of the worst allergy problems.

It's surprising no Florida city is in the top 10 for allergies. I left Florida and moved to Oklahoma City and allergies here are a lot worse than Florida (Orlando and Sarasota/Bradenton) ever was. Now, when I travel back to Florida, my allergies ease up while I am there.

I experienced the same moving from Ohio to California. In Ca it is because the wind comes off the ocean for 11 months of the year. In the fall, the wind shifts and comes in off the desert bringing hot dry winds filled with pollen. This creates allergies and fires.

Is the wind pattern in Sarasota mostly off the gulf?

I don't have sinus problems in Florida like I did in NY, but I do get seasonal allergies. I just get watery eyes, nothing major. I have had no sinus or bronchitis problems since moving to Florida 10 years ago.

I agree that TX has high incidents of allergy related problems--
as I said normally I don't have real problem here in FL--
that is why I was so surprised to have the PA tell me it was allergy related...

I know I have strong respiratory reaction when red tide is in the area--but there is nothing out there that I know of now...

When I lived in upstate N.Y.I had bronchitis every winter for over 10 years.
I've never once had it here.
