It is difficult to find affordable housing that you describe. Here is an article from a year ago that describes the rental situation and it has only gotten tighter. In the last 12 months, average rent has increase 10.5%.

People are not answering your question because there is no good answer to it. It is tough. You have to be on the ground and you will be competing with others for what is available.

The best place to find a landlord that would rent to someone with bad credit and no employment would be craigslist, which I'm sure you have already looked at. The rental market is very competitive right now. Any available rental is going to have many applicants for a landlord to choose from. It might take a long time to find a place. Beware of scams. Before you give anyone a deposit check property records to make sure they actually own the place. You haven't gotten many viable responses because there aren't many viable options.

I understand. Also, we will be employed before we are looking for housing. We have the money set aside to stay in an extended stay hotel until we have secured housing. And yes, we are aware of the high cost of this.

If someone can share a link for the website to check property records in the area (if there is one), I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't know what county you'll end up in- Sarasota, Manatee, so here is a link to all of them:

Florida Assessor and Property Tax Records Search Directory - Page 1

Scroll down to the county, then pick Property Search or Property Tax Search. Enter the address, it will probably fill it in once you get enough unique characters in there. Click Search, and it will give you who owns it, the address of the owner, when they bought it and some other tax info. That should help you avoid the scammers.

How do you have steady income? You said you were eligible for rehire at the airports, that doesn't mean you have a job.

You also said your husband is looking for management positions with Publix, again that is not having a job.

Poor credit and neither one of you not having a job is not the way to do things, especially when you have a child to think about.

Seain Dublin- I meant that we have steady income now, and have had for years. It's a bit difficult to work a job in a state you don't yet reside in. We have made contacts concerning employment, and will secure employment as the time approaches. As I have mentioned in previous posts, we have to move out of the house we are currently in. It doesn't matter if it is around the block or in Florida, we have to secure a new home. We are thinking of our child. That is why we are trying to make the best decisions possible for our situation.

Right now, Tampa leads the state in jobs created. Just driving around Port Charlotte there were numerous businesses with 'Now Hiring' signs in the windows.

As to where to live, get the job first. Suggest the primary breadwinner come down and stay at a motel, and get a job. THEN find a place to live, second job, etc.

Just an FYI, not sure how long you've been "out of Florida" but the present state of being here is not what you remember ~ let me reiterate: the job market is a joke; PT work is what's hiring, $ is low & rent is high ~ we're not kidding you people who want to move down here, we're telling the truth!!!
