We are looking at property in Myakka Valley Ranches. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for high speed internet?
On a completely different subject - most if not all the properties we've looked at have a pond. Of concern to my husband and me are venomous snakes and alligators. Can anyone shed some light on this subject too? TIA

Don't swim in the pond or let your pets lose. All ponds may have snakes and alligators at some point. If you have small pets, be mindful of hawks as well. Even if you have a fenced yard, if you have a Yorkie type dog, you might not want to leave it unattended.

You could fence the pond and keep the nasties out, but the critters usually just come with the territory. Most of the snakes you'll encounter will scatter in the opposite direction.

Out that way,I would watch out for Rattlesnakes,Water Moccasins,Gators,Mosquitoes and Amoebas. I don't swim in canals or ponds.

Myakka Ranches shares the boundary of the State Park, so expect to see all kinds of wildlife roaming around. Installing a fence around a pond kind of defeats the purpose of living in such a community on 5 acres of raw nature. Reminds me of some of my neighbors. We live east of I-75 but they feel the need to citify their lot with garage lights, yard lights, pole lights. Need lights? Live in the city.

Thanks very much to all. All advice is greatly appreciated. We currently live in the northwestern U.S. where we have everything from eagles, hawks, great horned owls, cougar, bobcat, bear, wolves, coyotes, rattlesnakes etc. We are as diligent as humanly possible about minimizing the risk of our fur kids coming into contact with predators. We're definitely not going to go for a dip in the pond; that's for sure! I am more concerned about our dogs (one 60 lbs. and the other 15 pounds) and our cats. The house we're interested in has a fully fenced back yard, but we would reinforce the existing fencing to help keep some of the not so friendly critters away from the house.
