Anyone have any idea what $175,000 would buy in the Sarasota area? Any particular areas that are bargains?

When you say "Sarasota area", do you mean Sarasota county (North Port, Venice, Englewood) or the city of Sarasota. If you are talking the city of Sarasota you won't get much for that price. Now if you're are referring to Sarasota county, you can get a pretty nice, new home for the above price.

You can look at the thread about "looking to buy in North Port". I have described a house I just wrote a contract on. North Port has the best "deals" of any city in Sarasota county.

Yes, North Port does have some great deals and great looking homes. I was trying to find something in the Sarasota City area or somewhere close to it for around $175,000/ single family home. There are a few affordable areas near Bee Ridge and Clark rd but was curious about anyone that lives there or any info about the area. Parrish, East Bradenton, Venice, and North Port are less expensive, but just wondering if there are any "deals" for the city limits.

Bee Ridge and clark is a mixture of nice and not so nice. It just depends on the exact location of the property you are looking at. It's certainly not terrible there, though. Mostly working class people, no gated places there. We lived near there for 3 years, off Bee Ridge and Sawyer. Personal opinion on Parrish-too much housing development, a bit too far from work for me, not very much retail there yet. East Bradenton-there's Lakewood Ranch, a huge development and smaller developments. Usually a bit cheaper than Sarasota proper, again, all housing, little retail. Venice, I like. Higher median age there, and little tolerance for the antics of the younger set, but a pretty and peaceful place right on the water. North Port would have to pay me to live there, it's all housing and low paying jobs (Walmart, home depot, etc) with an inferior infrastructure for the growth boom they experienced. Folks, these are personal opinions only, please take them for what they are.

You would get so much more for your money in Manatee. Bradenton's is constantly falling! Having said that, there has been a crash in all of FL!

Be careful in these areas. Bradenton is horrible. I have lived here for many years and the crime is horrible, schools are bad, and you can't even go to the mall at night(crime). Stick to the north port area.
