Few homes in North Port have public water or sewers. You will be dealing with well water and septic tanks. It has lower real estate prices because of lower demand. You are not near a beach.

It's an OK choice if you are looking to buy within a certain budget, but overall not that great a place to live, in my opinion. There is not an actual "downtown North Port". It's basically a string of strip malls punctuated by a Home Depot, a Lowes, and a Wal-Mart, along Tamiami Trail.

This area was among the hardest hit when the real estate market crashed. It's recovering, but not as fast as other areas like Englewood or Venice, and there are still lots of empty foreclosed homes and empty lots.

I have a friend I visit in North Port. It strikes me as clean, new, spacious, and quiet. My friend selected North Port for the excellent value and the large lot. They came from a property that was measured in acres and did not want someone right on top of them. Their North Port house looks into a small woods.

Thank you so much for your replies! My husband flies down Friday for a 3rd interview. Fingers crossed! If anyone can recommend any agents in the area, please send them my way.

@ SoFLGal... Do you know of a good website to find rentals. Particularly in Lakeside Planation besides the normal Zillow and Trulia.

There are several agents on this forum. Why not contact one of them. Pick one that knows the area you're interested in. I think one lives or has lived in North Port.

I don't handle rentals but you might want to try:

Rentals.com
homes.com
realtor.com
rentalhouses.com
craigslist.org
