Tis the season to be jolly, and the Sarasota area offers everyone a lot of opportunities for fun during the holidays. There are so many smaller events put on by the local churches and various groups, that it would be difficult to post all of them here. So I will try to list the larger events and anyone who wants to add other events, please join in.
Friday
Holiday Night of Lights at St. Armand's Circle -- official lighting of the circle's holiday lights, entertainment, Christmas carol sing-a-long, Santa parade. Starts at 5:30 pm. Love, love, love this event each year.
Lakewood Ranch's Music on Main -- Bring the little ones to see and play in the SNOW 6 - 8 pm, Event runs 6 - 9 pm with holiday carolers, carriage rides and of course, Santa Claus.
Live from Downtown Sarasota It's Friday Night -- live performances at 5 Points Park this week, 6 - 9 pm.
Holly Holiday Part at Historic Spanish Point, Osprey -- live music, refreshments, holiday lights, 5 - 8 pm. Non member tickets $12/adults.
Blues on Main -- street party on Old Main street in downtown Bradenton (Blues Festival is Saturday), Friday 4 - 10 pm, Saturday 5 - 11 pm. Music, food & drink vendors, free admission.
Venice Holiday Arts & Crafts Show -- at the Venice Community Center, free admission. Friday 10 - 5, Saturday 10 - 3.
Sarasota Jungle Gardens Holiday Lights -- runs each Friday & Saturday thru Christmas, 6 - 9 pm. The Jungle Gardens is sparkling with holiday lights, family events & Santa. Adults $11, children 3- 12 $6.
Old Fashioned Village Christmas -- Bradenton's Village of the Arts, Friday 6-9:30 pm, Saturday 11-4. Free admission. Holiday carolers, gingerbread houses, village Christmas tree, all done in old fashioned style.
Sarasota Craft Show -- over 115 artists participating in the show, runs 10-6 Fri & Sat, 10-4 Sunday. Adults $10, Seniors $9, Students $5. Robarts Arena at the Sarasota County Fair Grounds.
Bradenton Blues Festival -- huge event at the Riverwalk Park in downtown Bradenton, 10 am - midnight, tickets $40 at the gate (cash only) or get discount if buy early, see

The Bradenton Herald today had an article about the upgrades to the food vendors for this year's event, also an article about the various performers for Saturday's event. If you are into blues, this is the go to event of the winter.
Sarasota Holiday Parade -- another big holiday event taking place on Main Street in downtown Sarasota, starts at 7 pm at Main and US301. Holiday floats, marching bands and special guest, Santa Claus. This year's theme is "A White Christmas."
Venice Boat Parade -- boats all decked out in lights and decorations parade down the Intercoastal Waterway from Albee Rd Bridge south to Circus Bridge in Venice. (By the way, the Sarasota Boat Parade will take place December 13th.}
Night Before Christmas -- family holiday event at G. T. Bray Park in Bradenton, 4 - 7:30 pm. Santa arrives by helicopter at 4 pm. Piles of snow, hay rides, craft vendors, lots of family friendly activities. Free admission.
Jingle & Jog 5K Race -- to benefit the Community Haven for Adults & Children with Disabilities on Desoto Road in Sarasota. Event takes place at Community Haven at 8 am, register ahead by calling 355-8808 x 258.
Nik Wallenda tight rope walks at the grand reopening of Sarasota Ford on US301 in Sarasota, event runs 3 - 6:30 pm.
Petite Flowers & Boutique Sale -- Sarasota Garden Club hosts this event at their site on Blvd of the Arts at US41, 10 am - 4 pm. Holiday items, plants, designer handbags for sale.
Black Nativity -- performance by the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota. Gospel and spiritual music. For tickets call 366-1505 x100.
22nd Annual Hot Dogs & Cool Cats Laugh Your Paws Off Gala -- fundraiser for the Humane Society of Sarasota County, event features Sinbad. Ritz-Carlton, doors open at 6 pm, tickets $250, go to

Atomic Holiday Bazaar -- handmade crafts, food trucks, music. 12 - 5 pm, adults $5, 13 & under get in free, Sarasota Municipal Auditorium.
Sunday
Bridge Street Chili Challenge -- Bradenton Beach's historic Bridge Street, 10 am - 3 pm, chili voting runs 11 am - 1:30 pm. $8/person for chili tastings.
Coquina Beach Market runs 10 - 4 and Bridge Street Market runs 10 - 3, both on Anna Maria Island. Fresh fruits and veggies, crafts, etc.
Jingle Paws Jubilee -- It's a part for pets at Payne Park in Sarasota, 11 am - 5 pm. Admission = donation of cat or dog food, treats or toy. Animal adoptions, vendors, local crafts, live music, etc.
The School of Russian Ballet presents "The Nutcracker" at the Sarasota Opera House, 7 pm, tickets $15 - $32, call 962-6664.
Siesta Key Drum Circle -- each Sunday at Siesta Key Beach, just before sunset. Free.
There are quite a few cultural events going on between now and the end of the year, I wanted to mention some of the more popular ones:
"Meet Me in St. Louis" is being performed at the Manatee Performing Arts Center thru December 21, tickets $27 - $37, call 748-5875 for info.
"A Christmas Story: The Musical" at the Players Theatre in Sarasota thru Dec. 21, tickets $25 - $30, call 365-2494 for info.
"Hairspray" is at the Florida Studio Theatre thru Jan. 10th, tickets $19 - $49, call 366-9000 for info.
South Pacific is still at the Asolo Respertory Theatre thru Dec. 28th, tickets $26 - $80, call 351-8000 for info.
Last but not least, "An Elvis Christmas, A Tribute to Elis Presley" is coming to the Manatee Performing Arts Center on Friday, December 12th. Ticket info at 748-5875.

Probably a little late answering but yes it's every Sunday at sunset. Nokomis drum circle is Saturdays. Englewood drum circle is Saturday as well.
