Does anyone have experience or advice in setting up a Trust in Florida?

I have an outdated one from Rhode Island and I need to get going on getting it up to date down here.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Mikey

Contact a local real estate attorney, they can advise and assist you best. You should also discuss it with an accountant or financial advisor.

I don't know why you would want a real estate attorney dealing with a family trust matter--
find an attorney that deals with trusts and estate planning--
maybe the trust dept of your bank could point you toward someone or call the Bar Association

I have worked with several customers that had their will and trust done through a real estate attorney's office.

Olmsted and Wilson is a local Port Charlotte real estate attorney's office that deals with wills, trusts and estates as many other real estate attorneys do.

Here is their web site: Port Charlotte Real Estate Attorney - FL Business, Guardianship Lawyer | Olmsted & Wilson, P.A.

Farr Law Firm in Punta Gorda is another one - http://farr.com/

If you live in Sarasota, I am sure there are some up there too. You can do a Google search. Here is the first one that came up when I did a search - http://www.boardcertifiedestateplanning.com/

I agree with loves2read. Trusts are for estate attorneys.

My landlord is at this firm. Haven't done estate planning with him but this is where I would start when we get around to that.

There are literally pages of trust and estate planning attorneys in our area. I would use an attorney that specializes in the field vs a real estate attorney. By the way, Cardiff, I have dealt on multiple occassions with your law firm -- would have no issues with recommending them to others.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm trying not to get ripped off here.

I was just quoted $3500.00 for what would be a pretty simple, straight forward trust.

That seems way out of line to me...more that double what I paid in R.I.

The attorney also sells annuities and was more than insistent about selling that as well.

No, actually it was an attorney with a salesperson in tow.

I did not come away with a good feeling from this.

I rec'd doing a little net search for Trust/Will lawyers in your area, digging into their 'background'; many barrister sites will show the lawyer's CV: find one that migrated south to FL from RI or New England. That person will have experience/knowledge in both states laws.

The quote you got was ridiculous, unless you have 20s of Millions and one of the mansions on the RI shoreline.
