Default Venice Florida

Moved from Minnesota to North Port Florida (15 min south of sarasota). North Port although a growing community is not a great place to live. Homes are very affordable (which means the rift raft can afford them as well). North Port has a lot of homes in forclosure. There are no jobs in North Port. The only mall close by is the Port Charlotte Mall (GROSS and old). There is no night life in North Port at all. North Port and Port Charlotte although close to the water- you are not close to a beach- only a river.

Being younger stick to Sarasota. Sarasota is a great location. 15 minutes from Siesta Key, 60 minutes from Tampa, 2.5 hours from Orlando, 2.45 hours from Ft. Lauderdale and 3 hours from MIAMI. Sarasota has more of a night life and is just off I-75 which will take you from Georgia all the way to Miami. In Sarasota you have Sarasota airport, Tampa Airport not far (60min), RSW (Ft. Myers) airport (45 min away) and even the orlando airport 2.5 hours away- although I listed the Orlando airport that is 2.5 hours away- that seems to be the airport where you get the best deals and might save you some money if you don't mind the drive.

Sarasota has some fantastic Golf courses and is a very beautiful place. St. Armand Circle is a fantastic place that is beautiful and perfect for having a drink or dinner outside on a patio. If your moving to the West Coast of Florida- Naples- Ft. Myers or Sarasota are the best places to be. Naples is nice as well- just a little over an hour drive across the state to see the Miami Dolphins play- then again- I'm probably the only person who really wants to see that.

I looked back in your previous posts and in one it said you lived in Venice and in the other it said you lived in a development in North Port. If you live in the development in NP that you posted I can see why you're not happy here. Not exactly the most kid friendly place in town. The average age in NP is 38, so there are a lot of younger people in town. Probably not many where you live though. I would agree on the job situation. From what I hear it's pretty tough out there. Not just in NP but all over Florida and the US for that matter.

North Port is actually about 40 minutes or so from Sarasota depending on where you're going and roughly 35 minutes from the beaches.

I like Sarasota as well and think it's a great place to raise kids ( I grew up there myself). There are tons of things to do in Sarasota as well but it's quite a bit more expensive then NP. The home you're living in now would probably be double that in the Sarasota area.

Hope things start looking up for you here

River?? How did you miss the Charlotte Harbor?? That would be that large body of water underneath you as you drive up 41 from Punta Gorda into Port Charlotte. Turn left off 41 onto Harbor Drive and you will end up at the Port Charlotte Beach.

The Charlotte Harbor is what I was referring to (I believe it's called the Peace River- so I'm guessing it's a river). Although close to water- you are not close to the beach/ocean. You are correct that I stated I lived in North Port (Heron Creek)- Since then we have moved to Venice.

Your right Sarasota is more expensive to live compared to Port Charlotte and North Port- I was just stating my opinion on where I would rather live and where I would rather raise my two daughters (Personal Preference).

No, it's Charlotte Harbor, it is not the Peace River. The Peace River flows into Charlotte Harbor. Note the sign that says "Charlotte Harbor" as you drive from Punta Gorda on 41. And yes, there is a beach in Port Charlotte. You are right about being far from the ocean, but that's true whether you're in Port Charlotte or North Port or Venice. The Port Charlotte beach is on Charlotte Harbor, which leads into the Gulf of Mexico. The Venice Beach is on the Gulf of Mexico, but they are all a loooong way from an ocean. They are however close to a beach.

Anyone visiting the Port Charlotte beach complex expecting to find a nice sandy beach to swim at, will be seriously disappointed.
Most people don't want to swim in the brown river water found in the Harbor, and after heavy rains, runoff can actually raise bacterial levels enough to cause a health hazard:http://www.nrdc.org/water/oceans/ttw/ttw2009.pdf There is however a relatively small heated pool at the complex.
To visit a real beach, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and Cape Coral residents have to make a 30 to 45 minute drive to the coast.

Swimming might not be advisable here (brown water), but it’s a festive place with boat ramps and a long fishing pier. Lovely sunsets, and ospreys tend to hang around the pier hoping to be thrown a fish. Parking is $0.25 per half hour (“pay and display”; you put money in the pay station, and it gives you a ticket that you display in your windshield).Wayfaring Waypoint - Port Charlotte Beach Park

The Port Charlotte Beach East sample returned 42 cfu/ ml and Port Charlotte Beach West returned 48 cfu/ml on June 9, 2008. These results increased the geometric mean for both East and West beaches in the Port Charlotte Complex to 56.9 and 46.5 respectfully, rating both locations as poor. The beach area complex should be considered a potential health risk to the bathing public at this time.Bacteria warning for Port Charlotte Beach - WWSB ABC 7 Florida - Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, North Port, Siesta Key Breaking News, Weather, Sports and Traffic on the Suncoast |

If there's any doubt in your mind whether or not it's RIVER far past the bridges, go to Harpoon Harry's on the Fourth of July, after that bunch of lunatics do their Freedom Swim across the river and pull up a stool at the bar. The STENCH coming off of them is unmistakable stagnant river water.

Go to Google Earth and follow the river upstream to it's origins in Polk County. All those pretty lakes are PHOSPHATE pits. The headwaters of the Peace River originates in one of the most toxic areas of the state. Issues - The Phosphate Risk

Not to nit pick, but isn't the Gulf of Mexico part of the Atlantic Ocean?
