It is an under 20 minute commute but that is very tolerable when you factor in the proximity to Siesta Key, Trader Joes, bakeries, cafes, bookstores, dining & nightlife. I have loved Gulf Gate for a long time and have often joked/threatened my wife that I'm getting a Gulf Gate tattoo. My choice of place to live would factor in other aspects than just distance to work.

I recently accepted a job offer in Sarasota and I'm trying to find a nice place to live. I'm a 22 year old female, not married, no kids. I'm looking for a decent place, doesn't have to be super fancy but I would like my own bathroom. Room mates are also preferred and I have a cat. Any suggestions?
Check out The Meadows area behind Sports Authority.

Sorry, but having a cat will exclude almost all condo rentals as most condo communities have rules about tenants not having pets. I can't think of one condo community in The Meadows that allows tenants to have pets. However, there are several apartment complexes either on or close to University Parkway that might have a rental in your price range and do allow small pets.

I know of one apartment complex in the Palm Aire area that definitely allows cats, I have a friend with cats that lives there. It's Traditions at Palm Aire. It's a nice area, complex seems neat and well maintained, lots of tall shade trees, she has been happy with it so far.

There are 2 other apartment complexes in that same Palm Aire area that allow dogs, you would have to ask about cats. They are TGM Palm Aire Apartments and Timberlake Apartments. Both are quite close to each other, just north of University Parkway off of Whitfield.

The Ranch Lake Apartments, off of SR70 east of I-75, close to Lakewood Ranch, opened in the past year. They originally advertised as pet friendly, having a dog park. Don't know if cats are included in the pet friendly, so you would have to ask.

There's one other place I can think of that I know allows pets, Huntington Place. It's in Sarasota on 12th St between Lockwood Ridge Rd and Beneva, which is about a 10 minute drive to University Pkwy (because of several traffic lights, actual distance is just a few miles).

I'd second The Meadows- there are rentals under your budget . There is a rental agent in their shopping village off of Honore Ave and Taywood Meadows.

There's a new apartment complex that just put up the leasing now signs called Park Crest Landings. It's in Manatee county on SR64 just a few traffic lights west of I-75 (which puts it about 5 miles north of University Parkway but it's a quick interstate trip).

I pulled up the info and they have 1 bdrm units in your price range AND they allow cats. There is a $300 non-reundable pet fee up front.

So brand new construction, looks like nice amenities and it is by a park to the north.

That's why if you are relocating, it's best to visit the area first, yes? :-)

Maybe money is the issue. Maybe they can't afford to go back and forth. That's why people come to this forum for advice.

Exactly, the area and apartment choices are completely overwhelming to someone new to the area.. I don't blame anyone for taking suggestions during a search. Some people who live on this forum seem to lose sight of the relocation aspect of the board.
