Hey, does anyone know when the ferry at the west end of Dearborn st in Englewood is coming? I hear it will go to Blind Pass beach.

Lol. The only ferry I am aware of is the South Venice Ferry and then the one going out to Palm Island. Where did you hear of an additional ferry, Kiggy?

Commissioners unsure about beach passenger ferry in Englewood - Sarasota News | Mysuncoast.com and ABC 7: Local News

Perhaps some of the shop owners on Dearborn would have some updated info? Or you could try contacting the Sarasota county commissioners office to find out the status of the private ferry discussion.

Looks like the Englewood Chamber had a recent meeting about it on the 28th of April: https://www.englewoodchamber.com/eve...erry-meeting-2

You might want to call the Chamber.

I can't imagine this will go anywhere. A) it would have to be a very small 6-8 passenger ferry for shear economic reasons and because the only place available for loading/unloading is Veteran's Memorial Park, which has limited parking. B) Why would people take a ferry when they can drive via bridges to 1) Englewood Beach, 2) Middle Beach (Blind Pass), 3) Manasota Beach. C) The dockage at Blind Pass is a few hundred yards walking distance from the beach. Our population isn't going to trudge that distance with their beach cart & cooler
During peak "season" times when parking lots are jammed I guess I can see how this might be slightly viable, but a small handful of customers each day won't sustain any private business like this, unless you're charging them $25 each way, and good luck with that!

Thanks for the info -- just got off the phone with the CRA committee. They are currently fundraising for an $80,000 solar run pontoon type boat that would ferry about 28 passengers across the bay from Middle Beach to Dearborn St and back. Has to be approved by the Sarasota county board.

28 passengers... boat will be 1/4 full each run. There's not enough parking down there for those folks. People aren't going to walk 1/8 mile from the nearest public lot. Good luck with that fundraiser!
