hardy board was very big in North Carolina fifteen or so years ago when I was shopping there for homes. It supposedly is resistant to moisture and termites.

For Florida, stucco is MUCH more practical. I frankly think it is the most attractive finish on a home of any you could have. And you can pretty much have any style home with stucco. We had hardy board on our little vacation home in NC, it was OK, but I much prefer stucco. Also remember that insurance will be lower on a block/stucco home.

I think it's the Mediterranean style that I'm not fond of. I've tried finding some "beachy" looking stucco homes online, but not having much luck. I want something with a wrap around porch.

I would stay away from it, especially near the water.

Check out homes in Boca Grande, FL for examples of stucco/seaside look/beach look.

It's pretty easy actually. Follow same design as the house you like but use block exterior walls and stucco finish instead of hardi-plank.

It's the metal roof, porches, large overhangs and overall design/style of the home that give it the seaside look.

Coming from Kentucky, where there is almost zero stucco homes built, the whole concept is foreign to me, but if you can take my plan and build it with stucco, I'm not opposed to the idea. Especially if it makes for a more durable home. So, basically any plan can be converted to a stucco home. Take this plan for example:

With hurricanes siding becomes shrapnel! There are reasons people aren't using siding, insurance being just one.

with your budget , don't think so

metal roof +++ $$$$

and that design is too big for standard Rotonda lots -width wise

Yes, those metal roofs are huuuuuuuge $$$$$. Like unbelievable high cost. They are very durable though, and will last 50 years or so.

Just like Vinyl is not commonly used down south but more up north because its prone to melt an intense heat Stucco is more suited for hotter climates because it dries better.
