We just moved to the area and I'm in the process of getting a few quotes for pest control, but do we also need termite prevention? The sales guy I talked to yesterday told me not to bother unless we actually start having a problem, but after searching through threads on here, it seems like some say it's also necessary?

I don't know why a pest control company would tell you not to bother with termite protection. It is an absolute must. We have lived here 11 years and have had them at both houses. First house in the ground next to the home. Second house in the wood frame around the door. If you read information about termites in Florida, it is not if you will get them, it is when you will get them. There are two types of termites - drywood and subterranean. I would never go without termite protection. We use Truly Nolen. There are different types of termite protection services too. Look to see which option is best for you.

Here is the Florida Code for termite protection in buildings - http://www.floridabuilding.org/fbc/p..._rev030105.pdf

It was actually the sales guy from Truly Nolen who told us not to get termite protection and that it would cost a ton of money if we decided to get it. We decided to go with someone else who offered a reasonable termite and pest control plan.

Would you please let us know who you went with or DM me? I also got a very high quote for the termite protection.

Thank you for the link. It sounds like protection is a combination of building practices and soil treatments.

Anyone willing to share a ballpark price they were quoted for the soil treatments? Was anything else recommended?

We have those green things they put in the ground all around the perimeter of the house and they check them twice a year and do a termite inspection once a year inside our home. The cost is around $300 per year.
