We are moving from NSB, Florida to the Venice, Osprey/Nokamis area. We have a boat that measures 29 ft long with trailer and motor. We would love to find a home where we could keep it on-site. It seems as though the neighborhoods that would allow this are a little sketchy. We do not wish to dry store it or leave it in the water. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I don't know the neighborhoods down there as well as I do here but I can offer some advice. I lived in an area here in Bradenton called Braden Woods where owners could keep boats in the back or side yards as long as a fence screened the boat from the street and neighboring yard. I had a couple of boats, all about the same size as yours, while living there and brought in shell to create a "pad" for parking the trailer. That was OK but the problem I had was that the drainage on that side made it almost impossible to get the boat in and out during the summer. The ground was almost always soft, and tires would just create ruts. Even if it was firm enough for my SUV, I still worried about the trailer getting bogged in. So, the lesson here is look for a neighborhood that allows boat trailers but make sure that there is an actual driveway for getting in and out of the side or, at the very least, check the ground for drainage.
