Looks like the next week should be OK inland.
Well, that's what I thought as well, but some days I've had it the winds have been predominately from the NE.... go figure.

Maybe... Just mayyybe, the red tide is due to all the chemicals sprayed on lawns and golf courses.

If we could only figure out why, the gulf water is having unhealthy reactions...

Could it possibly be all the unhealthy chemicals they spray on lawns? No, because then I cant golf and water my lawn everyday, it just couldnt be that.

No, it must be something else. Definately its not all the chemicals sprayed on lawns.....

I will agree that fertilizers could have an effect. Saying that, there was red tide before fertilizers & chemicals.

But commercial lawn care companies are prohibited from using fertilizers now I believe--
Homeowners can put them down however...
So red tide should be lessened...right?

Sarasota and Manatee county have banned the use of fertilizers containing nitrogen and/or phosphorous by everyone between June 1st and September 30th the past few years. It's to keep the nitrogen and phosphorous out of the water runoff during the rainy summer months. The chemicals promote algae growth, especially in the bay. There was an exemption for vegetable gardens.

October 1 to May 31, everyone (homeowners and commercial) may use fertilizers on lawns and landscapes, although the county does encourage the use of FL native plants as much as possible as they do not require as much fertilizer as non-native plants.

I drove over to Anna Maria yesterday through St. Armand's and down Longboat Key. With the windows open for that beautiful breeze over the Ringling bridge, I smelled the dead fish the minute I hit the circle as well as most of the south end of Longboat ~ wasn't quite as bad on the south end of Anna Maria but if one has low immunities, this will sure knock your socks off...

Assuming that Red Tide is "bad" in the view of Mother Nature....hmmm! In that case, when a Volcano buries a town, they must have been bad too!

It may actually have a function....and even if not, it can be a combination of random things which is just part of nature and the cycle.

Remember, the lord and universe never designed Florida to be our sunny vacation spot. We are simply guests who get to stay because we developed air conditioning, jets, cars and bug spray.
