Hi all,
Came across this map and wonder why the concentration is so high at our beach compared to others. Siesta Key is suppose to be the best yet the numbers are so high. Even looking to northern FL they don't have these numbers. Any insight how long this will last?
I saw a FB post of a Lido Key resident, a canal full of dead fish, they sent somebody to clean up....Siesta bridge we saw a few dead fish, and a few on the beach....Surprised to see these numbers since it is the best beach (water quality may or may not be included in the rating?)...

Last night TV news showed bad red tide in Sanibel, dead fish heavy on the beach.

So, how long will it linger typically? What's the 'normal' time for the area? I thought it's a late summer thing? Is it here all winter as well?

There is no "normal" It will be gone when it's gone.

I thought it just occurred at the actual beaches themselves. As the crow flies, we're about 4 miles from the Gulf and I've had a sore/scratchy/'groggley' throat for about 3 weeks now. I thought it was a cold, but it comes and goes. I'm thinking I must be one of the ones who's sensitive to the crud.

When we lived in Naples we were about 8-10 miles from beach as the crow flies and red tide there affected us with red eyes and cough. This fall is the first time in 8 years (since we moved here) that we've felt the same symptoms. Most people think they have a virus or cold but I know it's red tide because of the same symptoms.

Simple as watching the weather and the wind direction!
This is a neat URL to bookmark where you can look to know if the sea breeze is headed your way.

Looks like the next week should be OK inland.
