Lots of people who packed up their 7 year old SUV and headed down I75 a few years ago looking for the sun and fun life in beautiful Florida only to find out they are priced out and were actually struggling anyway when they left from "up north"...then the market and job market goes south, COL goes up, then they pack up and go elsewhere. Big Deal.

No one has the entitlement to live in Florida, "on the beach", on "Park Avenue", Miami Beach, Maui, The Woodlands, Dunwoody/Powers Ferry, Darien, Shaker Heights, Oakbrook, Mountain Brook, or anywhere else.

If you can't afford where you live in Florida, then simply move to where you can afford to live !! Don't blame "Park Avenue" for being expensive, or Sarasota pricing you out - just leave if it's hurting you or your feelings.

Again, no one is entitled to live in "paradise" or in Trump Tower, Beau Ciel, The Vue, or the Ritz Resdiences or the Concessions either. Get real.

Lots of losers re-located here and thought they would become or transform into something else besides a loser. it doesn't work that way.

Yeah, lots of failures have discovered the mecca of places like east TN and/or the Carolinas. These people that have fled FL are now running up I 95 and I 75, and now putting immense pressure on the infrastructure of places around the Tri Cities especially, and the locals to TN are complaining, which is funny in that the new comers/migrants from FL are driving up prices and demands for services ,public and private. Schools are overpriced and the health care system is overloaded. These are the same bums who left up north, landed in FL, now landing in east TN.

I think Sarasota is beautiful if you have the money to live in a nice area, nice beaches, once you visit the few places like Marie Selby, Ringling museum ect there is little to do and traffic is horrible. I like the couple of events through the year like thunder by the bay but even the 4th is getting so hard to find a parking spot and then to get out once the event is over I will most likely just go to Punta Gorda to watch. Florida has always been plastic banana phony baloney place. But that is what all tourist places are like and Fla is one giant tourist spot. Outside of the beach there is little of nature that is not swamp. In fact Fla. is one giant Swamp that we humans have reclaimed. Weather can not be beat in winter but summers suck. Sarasota is not really alone, I have been across Fla Miami, Daytona, Orlando are all the same really. There are some older towns the Mexicans have not taken over, Deland, Mt Dora to name a couple. But Sarasota is a very expensive place to live and if you want to live on or very near the water well that is a class all by itself. If you like it you like it if you don't you don't. I do not nor would I live in Sarasota, we only bought as an investment. So far its paid off even though the taxes and HOAs are very high. For us we will be moving back to the Mountains of the Midwest, cheaper to live and we like to ride Harley and Fla is not only the worst state safety wise to ride its the most boring. Some people love Tampa, its got some things I think are very interesting. We just stayed over night at the Vinoy hotel. Great history wonderful place, way to expensive though. If you don't like it here make plans to move, thats what we are working toward.
As someone else mentioned ~ the thought of "entitlement" ~ not everyone can live on and/or near the water be it Sarasota or Morgantown, WV -think Cheat Lake to West Bloomfield, MI - think Lake Elizabeth to San Diego, CA - beachfront ~ Expensive is relative to what--> minimum wage?!

Sarasota is a tourist destination ~ Florida is a Swamp ~ If it's too expensive then move back home.

Wow, that's what posters give on public access forums isn't it? Why does another poster have to document an opinion on a silly webforum? Btw, who the heck is Zach?

Sarasota-Bradenton is hardly a true tourist "destination" at all. It doesn't come close to places like Orlando, Miami, Destin or a really true tourist destination, Key West. Personally I think cities like Clearwater Beach, and St. Pete Beach are far more "tourist destinations" (maybe even St. Augustine).
Areas of Sarasota, Bradenton, LBK, LWR, DT, Naples etc. are really seasonal resident destinations. I also think Ft Myers tends to be more of a tourist destination. My opinion (as a very long time RESIDENT).

Why would you ask who Zack is unless you are using more than one user name? Why don't you report my post and find out?

Gee, I don't really care that much who posts on the internet. That's what forums are for. People post all kinds of things. Who on earth needs to report some other poster for posting their opinion. That's sort of nutty in my book. Odd.

SRQ has a boatload of hoteliers betting right now on the tourist game; go figure?! How long-time are you in residence?
