Hubby and I going to Venice looking for a place to retire. Hoping we can get some suggestions.
We are looking for an active community, bocce is a must, and shuffleboard or something similar.
An over 55 would be ideal, but also open to other communities. We are looking to spend up to 250k.

We would be interested in a villa, only if it were in an over 55.Don`t want children right next to us. As far as a house a 2 bed 2 bath around 12 to 1500 sq ft would be perfect. Low taxes and reasonable HOA`s.

Thanks!

Default Also interested...

I'm from NJ and have been considering areas like Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch but would not rule out Venice, been told by my daughter's friend who lives in Bradenton that too many old people live in Venice...lol. I've done some research online...builder sites such as Neal Communities,Mattamy, Divosta and Delwebb. They have a lot of info on their communities but not much on the surrounding area, I want info on what's nearby such as beaches, malls, hospitals...etc. An extended visit is a must, the community is only 50% of the picture, amenities are the other 50%. Good luck in your search, i don't think you'll get much info here though.

Venetian Falls is a 55+ community in Venice with 700 homes between the mid $200s to the mid $300s. I don't think they are building anything new there now so it would be resale homes only. Beach Manor in Venice is also 55+; as are Harbor Isles, County Club Estates; The Villas at Chestnut Creek (although the rest of Chestnut Creek, which is very nice, is NOT 55+; and there are others including mobile home parks, where people with children would be less likely to live anyway, in Venice in particular.

State27homes.com is the link for regional MLS in this area. Take a look and it will help you narrow your search.

You better stick to an over 55 community or assisted living - to avoid the children.

Just an FYI, over 55 communities are not the same as assisted living
