If you like all things blue (i.e., socialism), Gainesville is definitely your place. My wife and I live in Alachua County (the red part). We have lived here for nearly fifteen years. Property taxes are sky-high but much of the revenue goes to things related to UF (i.e., city bus line). Given the number of highly-paid professionals in Alachua County, it has, without question, the most poorly-maintained road system. Union County to the north, by contrast, is one of the poorer counties in Florida. But it's county roads are, on the whole, far better than Alachua's. That's why, when I go for a motorcycle ride, I head to Union.

I try to avoid Gainesville. The large percentage of students find employment in local businesses. For the most part (Publix notwithstanding), customer service is sorely lacking. For that reason, the Mrs and I will often drive to Lake City to shop. All-in-all, the people are nicer there.

Yep. It's hot and humid. But where in the Southeast ISN'T it hot and humid for much of the year. Part of the reason we live where we do is the climate. If you look at the calendar year as a whole pie, summer is a smaller piece of the pie as compared to the Tampa Bay Area and points south. We actually had a light freeze on October 31st a few years back. And you typically get to sleep with the windows open up into May which is pretty much unheard of farther south.

So climate? Yes. Liberals? Yes. Bernie lovers, rejoice!

I'm a California Conservative. As soon as Hollywood decides my look is too old, my ass is in Florida. Anyone who happily pays state taxes for other people are out of their mind. On top of that, Cali just passed an additional 12 cent a gallon gas tax. Do Floridians pay over 4.00 a gallon? Didn't think so. The heat doesn't bother me, the cold does. And I can swim in the ocean in Florida. But I will miss the National Parks out here. Oh, and driving to Vegas.

Well if you want all things red (i.e. fascist) Sarasota or Charlotte county is your ticket.

So climate? Yes? Conservatives? Yes? Trump lovers? Yes. MAGA. Make America Gullible Again.

See how easy it is to generalize the opposite side.

Did you know Bernie Sanders honeymooned in Russia at the height on the cold war with Russia, tells you something.

Oh, you will miss a lot. Believe me.

Don't swim with a cut - or you may get flesh eating bacteria. That cough? It's Red Tide - you can't even be near the beach, even if you like the dead fish. Right now the jellyfish are attacking....

You can say the heat doesn't bother you, but when you get 100% humidity and 97/80 every day for a few months you just might change your mind. Oh, did I mention the bugs - termites will eat everything....

C'mon down.. Florida is the cheap man's Cali.
