question re: insurance Sarasota area
Is it going to be hard to get homeowners insurance and also expensive to get in Sarasota? Ironically, I called an insurance agent and asked for a quote on both Sarasota and Dade City (inland town) and it was cheaper in Sarasota (because of sinkholes in Pasco County).
Still, I have a feeling that it probably is expensive to get in Sarasota OR could get out of hand, especially if or when a big one comes through there or the Tampa Bay area (I think the 1921 hurricane that hit Tampa Bay also had a big impact on the Sarasota area, enough to delay John Ringling's dreams of developing the islands down there).
If I was filthy rich this would not be such a worrisome issue to me (same for everyone else).
Anyway, trying to get a reality check on what is going on.
Thanks for any input!

Rox, here is the link to a State of Florida site that lets you click on a county and shows you an average rate for a newer block home. Remember, that an older home, or a frame home or one near the water will cost FAR more. Hope this helps!

Thanks, gypsychic!
I just printed this out to have at hand to check as I keep comparing places.
Yeah, that is the challenge---to find a new block home where you want that is not part of a subdivision that has high CDDs, HOAs or both.
Anyway, this will help in my eventual decision.

Wow! Nice website. It shows Olympus as the lowest rates in Sarasota county. I shopped around quite a bit and went with Olympus. I think they are relatively picky on who the insure, the age of the home is a big deal for them.
My home is 2127 under air, built in 2003 and my insurance is $850 a year which I thought was great. I was with Edison and it was $1987 per year, same policy with Olympus and it dropped more than half.
