Will be moving from Ohio to Sarasota in June. Haven't finalized on "where"-- we really like Palmer Ranch (Riverview), Lakewood Ranch (LWRHS) & West of Trail (Sarasota HS)... Kids will be a sophomore & Jr. Wanting to find a school that has a fantastic college prep rep, and a variety of activities (I have a cheerleader & golfer/basketball player)-- but most importantly where they won't totally feel like outcasts since they're coming in "late" into their High School experience. Any insights on the communities & schools are very much appreciated!

Pine View High is the top rated school in Florida (and 13th in USA). It is a public "gifted" school in Nokomis/Osprey (between Sarasota and Venice). I have 1 son who graduated, 1 Freshman and 1 6th grader (they have 2nd grade - 12th grade).

Very education focused and college prep. Would highly recommend (Principal is not impressive but school is amazing)

We moved 3 yrs ago and I have 3 kids at Lakewood Ranch HS. We have been very pleased. They were the only HS in Manatee County to receive an A rating last year. They offer dual enrollment with SCF and allow the Jr and Sr to take college classes for free. Also, they can take supplemental classes through Florida Virtual School and give the kids a study period within their schedule to accommodate this. Seniors have the option to do a full time “on the job” training internship in whatever area interests them. There’s lots of sports and clubs. Marching band and color guard are huge. There’s no shortage of school spirit for Friday night football games under the lights. There’s usually a theme each week and all the kids dress up accordingly. I will say it’s crowded. But, they are building a new HS in Parrish (next town) which will mean many of our students who are residentially zoned in that area will be relocating there. Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to answer. It’s scary to relocate when schools are such a huge factor.

Are there high quality private High Schools? Cardinal Mooney Catholic is one I know of. Is IMG totally sports related?

Yes, IMG is a sports academy. I hear Cardinal Mooney is good as is Out-of-Door Academy.

I’m loving this info. If I “get the job” I’ll be moving with a teen football player. He wants that Southern football experience
