North Port?? (Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Venice: mortgage, foreclosure, rental)

Is there a problem with North Port?? It seems like every house is on the market there. Details, info., advice please?!

There were a lot of investors that bought several homes at a time, and when the market took a turn the investors gave the homes back or lost them to foreclosure. Combine that with the adjustable mortgages, foreclosed property, short sales and the average home owner trying to sell their home and you have a lot of homes on the market.

What I'm noticing right now is the very best homes go within a day or so of being on the market. If they are well kept and well priced there are plenty of buyers willing to purchase homes in North Port (we have seven contacts written in the past two weeks). There really are some fantastic deals out there right now and I think people are starting to be in a bigger hurry to pick them up.

I live in North Port and find it very family friendly. The average age here is 40 years old. If you are looking for a city with a lot of nightlife, this probably isn't the place for you but if you are looking for a nice place to raise a family you should definitely put North Port on your list.

There aren't very many private schools right in North Port but I have a friend who lives in North port and drives her kids to Venice Christian School and she LOVES it. That's about a 20 minute ride depending on where you live in North Port and the traffic.

It also depends on what age you are talking about-Pre-School, Elementary, Middle or High as to what's available and how close.

Check the FDLE website for the amount of child predators in this area! Northport was the inexpensive and isolated place for them to live when Sarasota prices rose, homes and rentals. So do your homework first no matter where you decide to live. Keep kids safe!
Northport's Coralrose Fullwood's murder is still unsolved she had 54 registered child predators within a mile radius of her home! google her name for the full story! A 21 year old mother of 2 was recently kidnapped raped and murdered. Taken from her home in broad daylight! So it's gotten a bad rap recently.
There is not a beach nearby. The interstate is extremely clogged at rush hour and if an accident occurs you can expect long delays! Most people commute to Sarasota for work. When Sarasota home prices rose everyone ran there, now it's a problem and they are regretting that!

What soflgal said. Some sick things went on in NP in terms of investors buying houses looking to flip them. The land was even worse. People were paying over $40k for a small plot of land there in the "Great American Land Auction". Now, they can't sell it (again). Biggest problem in North Port is the local government. They are a bunch of amateurs on the city council, and they don't know how to run a city. I would look outside the city limits and stay in the county.

Unfortunately this kind of thing happens everywhere. Carlie Brucia, a twelve year old girl was kidnapped raped and murdered in broad daylight in Sarasota. So no matter what town you live, you are not immune to this type of thing.
I used to work in the jail in Sarasota county and believe me there are plenty of sexual predators there(in Sarasota) as well--they're everywhere.

Take sensible precautions and watch your children and hopefully this kind of thing will happen less frequently.

I know of a Baptist church school in the area of Quesada and Forrest Nelson in Port Charlotte, as well. Another down in Port Charlotte, near Midway, near Easy Street, near Harbor...not sure of the exact road...is St. Charles Borromeo, a Catholic school.

Thanks folks.. On another message board people were very leery of North Port, too. I think we'll stick to the Venice area. It's really where hubby wants to be. We just need to get down there and start looking. Hoping for more replies, yet!
