charandscott - we live on the northern edge of Sarasota in Whitfield Estates, which is still Sarasota, but the southern edge of Manatee County. We love it here!

DeSoto Square Mall? Not in Bradenton - it is in unincorporated Manatee County. Bayshore? NOT Bradenton - Manatee County.
Also, according to reports by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Bradenton has a lower crime rate than Sarasota per capita.
I'm not saying Bradenton doesn't have it's problems, but most of the problem areas you are discussing aren't even in Bradenton.
BTW, I've lived in Venice, Sarasota, Bradenton and Palmetto. They all have good and bad areas.

Desoto Square Mall is not in Bradenton? What town is it in?
Bayshore is not Bradenton, either? I'm really confused now...oh, I get it, they added tucky, as in the Bradentucky Bombers...to be more representative of the area as a whole?
Maybe it's just a parallel world?

But your postal address says Sarasota even though it's in Manatee? Strange thing that.

Not really - years ago this area was all Sarasota County, but when they built the airport they wanted it to straddle both counties so they moved the county lines. We are serviced out of the Sarasota post office, so we remain a Sarasota address.

The DeSoto Square Mall and Bayshore Gardens ARE in Bradenton. If you sent a box to a store in the DeSoto Square Mall, or if you live near the DeSoto Square Mall (and I'm not sure why anybody would want to live near that mall), you don't address "DeSoto Square Mall.... U.S. 301.... Unincorportated Manatee County. You address to Bradenton. So, in a sense, even though maybe techinically DeSoto is not in Bradenton, it is in Bradenton. It's not in Lakewood Ranch, it's not in Palmetto or Ellenton, so it has to be in....... BRADENTON!!! Case closed.

Gypsychicks correct. Iv'e been here in Whitfield Estates for the past 55 years. At oine time we were given the choice to have our own Postal Address and incorporate. We looked at the tax hike and said ,"no thanks".
Let's put this discussion about Bayshore and Desoto Square Mall to rest. Neither one are in the city limits of Bradenton, just as Whitfield Estates isn't in Sarasota city limits. Yet both are in the Postal Zone so Bayshore and the Mall are addressed "Bradenton" While the Gypsychic and I are addressed Sarasota. If i lived across the creek I'd live in Bradenton.
I dunno about the rest of you but I can't think of a better place to call home. Every area has its "crime box". Hey!! Ya just don't go there. Make sense to you? Makes sense to me! Speedball1
