Hi Sunshine Girl,
We did get to Marina Jack's during our visit. It looks like a place we will have to spend some time at when we get down.
House was inspected yesterday. No major problems, just the garbage disposal wasn't working and a bad electrical wire. All should be fixed by Tuesday when we close.

Best,
smiledoc1

Default Rooms to Go

I don't know if this topic violates the rules of the forum. If it does, than I hope the moderator will delete this post.
We are in the process of furnishing the house we just bought and we are wondering if anyone on this forum/thread has had any experience with Rooms to Go. They are not here in the northeast and I am not familiar with them.

Thank you,
smiledoc1

Went in there to buy when we moved to Sarasota. Let me just say we were not tempted to buy anything from there. It's a chain and the workmanship and quality was not what we were looking for. I hate particleboard. Especially high priced particleboard. We ended up buying a piece here and a piece there at other retailers in the area. Believe it or not, also at yard and estate sales. There is some very good stuff sold at those sales sometimes.

Sunshine Girl,
Thank you for that information. Would you mind sharing with me the names of the other retailers you went to? My wife is heading down this weekend to get organized.

Thank you,

Smile Places to stay?

We may be headed over there (Sarasota, also Clearwater area) to stay a few days. We may stay about 2 1/2 days in Clearwater/Dunedin and then also stop by in Sarasota.

Any good places to stay? Probably 2 nights.

Rooms2Go have plenty of outlets here in DFW metroplex--sell room sets mainly--probably what some people consider better quality but they sell because they allow people to buy and defer payments for up to 12 mo which to me is the most stupid reason to buy furniture--it is really starting to show wear by the time the bills kick in...

I think you can get some ok pieces there but a lot of it is MDF and veneer--and the styles seem either modern or fairly ornate--just not my style...
young families/couples and people on a budget seem to be the main shoppers in our areas...

Sarasota has a Thomasville store but might be a little pricey---and Haverty's which is more expensive than Rooms2Go but you can still find some "cheap" furniture there because there are veneer finishes and poor construction...
IKEA can have some good items and LazyBoy as well--they do sofas and wood pieces not just recliners...

Kanes in Sarasota is a family-owned business that does designing for major home builders to stage their models---they carry name brand vendors
they are having a big discount/tent sale soon --
here is link to it
Kanes of Sarasota
Kanes Furniture | Home lots of photos of what they sell on this link

the Women's Exchange is a volunteer organization that takes contributions like furniture, jewelry, antiques and sells them to raise money--sort of like upscale GoodWill store so you might be lucky there--items are taken for 60 days and marked down twice if they don't sell--then they are either taken back or donated to the Women's Exchange...
Woman's Exchange - Supporting the Arts of Sarasota

you might also see if there is an estate sale section in the Sarasota paper--I know it is not funny to say this but many people talk about all the older people living in Florida so you can only assume that some of them eventually pass on--
I would think that there would be quite a few estate sales during the week...

Pier 1 can have some nice casual seating

Loves2read,
Thank you so much for those leads. My wife will be down this weekend thru the middle of next week. She will do some hunting.
I can't find an Ikea in Sarasota. There is one going up in Tampa. If there something I am missing?
Thank you again,
smiledoc1
