Hello.

We have just bought a house whose garden has access at its back to a river call Cypress Strand. At low tide the river is 2/3 feet deep. At high tide more 3/5. We look like to know if somebody went to this river by boat and if it was ok to go. Cypress Strand goes into manatee River just close to the I75 bridge on the south side. It is easy to see it on google map.
We don’t want to buy a boat and see that it is impossible to use it !
Thank you for your help

Jean

One easy solution would be to borrow a canoe or kayak and go out with a stick. If you find that there's an actual channel, you could pound some PVC pipes into the mud to mark it. I don't know how legal (or not) that might be, though. (And...to be clear...I'm not suggesting that you do anything illegal.)

If it is full of twists and turns, a GPS is definitely helpful. Before doing anything, and especially before trying to put in any sort of dock, be absolutely sure that you actually have riparian rights to the property. This guy is (IMHO) the guy to talk with: Home - FL Waterfront

Go to a local tackle shop and either buy a navigational map or talk to the locals.

Do your neighbors have boats? Do you ever see boat traffic on the river?

Or google it.
