Wow, sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live here! Thanks all for reminding me. I guess being able to hop on the beach cruisers and pedal our way to Siesta is darn lucky.
Today I was out boating in the gulf and witnessed our most spectacular shuttle launch yet. A cherry on top of a beautiful day!

Aloha Kai - is that still there? I was just going to write that I stayed in a villa off of Midnight Pass Road in 1990 or 91 when I lived in NH. That was the place! The previous year I stayed on Longboat Key. I liked Siesta Key much better. IIRC I liked the beach at the end of the road which was called Turtle Beach.

Yes Nancy it is still there. Gosh I love it and Casablanca has just been renovated with new tile roofs.
for all that are planning to move to Siesta Key. Don't worry about the traffic it is well worth it.

Angelfish, where on the island do you live? I know there is alot of new construction going on and was wondering if there are townhomes coming up?
 I wish I was there

Was out on the beach at Siesta yesterday. Great afternoon! Having lived an island, just remember, if you live out there during season, add time for getting on/off island. You'll learn to know when and not to get off during tourist season.

There is going to be either condo's or townhomes built right before the bridge over to Siesta Key, on Stickney Point Road. They just tore down an old gas station and trailer park there to make room for it. Its across from Carabba's Italian Grill.

We just had our very first vacation at the Calini at Seista Key and loved it so much that we bought a two weeks in May timeshare. It was the best vacation we have ever had, better than Mexico or a cruise. We can't wait until next May to return. Love the Sniki Tiki for lunch.

bunianne,
Welcome to the board! My wife and I had our first vacation in Siesta Key a couple years ago, and we loved it a lot! After a while, we decided that we enjoyed it so much we wanted to be close by. We recently bought a house in Punta Gorda, which is about 40 minutes away. PGI has a lot to offer, and has a nice historical SWFL feel, and is centrally located to a number of other great SWFL towns/beaches/things to do.
You're going to love coming back! There are a lot of great little restaurants there. I went to every bar in Siesta Key, and had them prepare their best Maraguita for me. You could walk everywhere - it was terriffic! Everyone was very friendly too.

I didn't realize you can see the shuttle launch from Siesta Key. Can you see it from anywhere in Sarasota? That would be cool!

We've been vacationing in Siesta Key for the last 4 years (we're from MI, too). Love the area and I'd move there in a heartbeat if it wasn't for my job (mechanical engineering / automotive). Also, the schools and health care seem to be a bit better in MI.
