Myakka is great if you like cows . It's a loong way to anything remotely interesting. Over an hour to Bradenton, and even further to Sarasota. It's way out there, and consists of a lot of farm land.

Here's a link to greatschools.net, for Myakka City Elementary School.
Myakka City Elementary School - Myakka City, Florida - FL - school overview
It looks like it got a 5 out of 10 rating from Great Schools and 3 stars out of 5 from parents of students.
It's about 45 minutes drive to Sarasota and Bradenton if traffic is light, but more likely an hour commute.
It's a great place for a horse farm or a ranch. Lots of space, not a lot of people and some amazing wildlife.

If you purchase out there be very sure to find out who holds the mineral rights to the property. In 2012 the phosphate company can begin to exercise its right to mine out there.
I have friends who live in Myakka. It is great if you want rural. There is one blinking light and a gas station and not a damn thing else out there.

Agree. It's beautiful, very rural, not much there and it is a LONG drive to anything. As said, 45 minutes to Sarasota if traffic is light (and MUCH longer to beaches) but bank on an hour. No jobs here.

It's about midway between Arcadia and Bradenton, isn't it? Let's see, it took me 90 minutes to get from my house to the outskirts of Arcadia...over by Canoe Outpost. So I'd say an hour is a pretty good guesstimation to get you anywhere in Bradenton. But it's worth the drive to be OUT of the cities. Even Arcadia's a little too big for my tastes.
Now that they've busted those drug dealers, it's probably not too bad.
