Husband is getting transferred to Sarasota county, we can only live in Sarasota county. we are 55+ with a german shepherd dog, a boat and 3 vehicles. We want to stay under 350k for the home and if there are hoa fees do not want to go over 250/month. Don't need crazy facilities and prefer a safe, quiet neighborhood.

Tall order as prices have gone insane there recently. Moving from another area in Fl so we know all about the pros and cons of FL, but right now we need recommendations since we do not know that area.

Thanks

North Port is your best bet at that price point. Or, rural Eastern Sarasota County.

there are a lot of development in south manatee that carry Sarasota addresses, so you might have an out there. However, the boat is a big problem for HOA's. they normally don't allow boats parked outside. and the three cars could be a problem storage wise. Likewise for the large dog. You might be better off looking in South Sarasota in some of the older neighborhoods without HOA's

As someone else said, the boat is going to be an issue with most HOAs, unless it's small enough to fit inside your garage. A number of HOAs also have deed restrictions regarding parking that might create problems for you having 3 cars.

With that in mind, you might be better off searching within non-deed restricted neighborhoods of Sarasota county -- there are many.

Here are a few suggestions:
Lake Sarasota
Desoto Lakes
Forrest Lakes
South Gate
Gulf Gate
Alta Vista - Paver Park - Arlington Park area
Brentwood - Sarasota Springs - Ridgewood area
Sun Haven & areas south of Clark Rd off Lockwood Ridge

There are quite a few small neighborhoods of streets south of Bee Ridge off of Swift that are not deed restricted as well.

If you are open to going further south, there are areas of Osprey, Nokomis, Venice and also much of North Port that have neighborhoods that are not deed restricted.

If at all possible, is renting for awhile an option for you? That way you could learn the area and neighborhoods better before buying.

I know this is a crazy situation at this time, we had a larger house on the lake and really wanted to move down there with the boat. I have been looking and driving my realtor crazy but as soon as we find a place by the time we start an offer it has gone pending. I feel like when the crash happened and you couldn't find a home as all the investors were buying them up with cash. I am too old to be dealing with this right now. Timing stinks.

But thanks for your suggestions, I will check out those places! Keep the ideas coming.

The work truck with signage on the truck could be a problem with many HOA’s, unless the work truck fits in the garage. A boat will almost certainly be a problem with most HOA’s. If you don’t live in an HOA, then you could have a crazy person move near you who has a poorly maintained home, and decorates their bare dirt lawn or tall weeds lawn with old boats, RV’s, and junk. The boat could probably be stored in a rented storage facility or in a harbor.

Do not purchase in an HOA. Between the work truck, the boat and keeping 3 vehicles off the street you would go nuts and be fined constantly in an HOA.

This is a fact. Good advice.
