Red face Riverview High Crime??????

Hi all, it has been awhile since I have posted, but I have still been lurking around the past year. Finally got the lawsuit settled with Jim Walters and we just put our house up on the market and are getting ready to make the big move. Still undecided on area and will becoming down to visit/possibly rent until we find a right fit for the family. Just met a girl today here in WV that is originally from here and moved to Riverview near Brandenton because her mom lives near Tampa, she said she is moving back asap because the crime there is so bad that she feels really unsafe. She is 25yrs and lives with two other girls and she said she is so afraid to stay by herself that when her friends are gone she goes and stays with her mom. She said with the immigration that nobody's property is safe and that breaking into peoples homes is even done during the day. She said a police officer was just shot the other day during a routine stop. I told her about this forum and that how some people here have posted that Brandeton is getting usafe, as well as, Tampa. We are still definately moving but still confused on area. I know I do not want Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Ft Myers big places like that so any input on a great place to raise family, descent schools but close enough to be able to go to the beach. I know up north it gets cold so I was wanting to stay down below Orlando but to hear my daughters friends mothers friend talk it has scared me a little. Thanks for any information.

What do you mean "even"? Burglars are much more likely to target during the daytime because there are less people home and thus less opportunity to get caught or encounter a homeowner who may be armed. Late night burglary is much more risky because most homes are occupied at night. Burglars for the most part are like cockroaches and run away whenever they seen other life. Home invasion robbery is a different story.

What I am trying to say is she said it is so bad that they are breaking into the homes even when they know people are home. She said one of her neighbors was broken into and she came out from her bedroom and she used a pipe or something and they took off. She called the police and they came and did a report and then that night they came back and not only finished robbing her but beat her up badly for defending her property.

See, now that's bad. That's home invasion robbery. It's just that when I see someone writing a post about a burglary spree meaning "high crime", I tend to get defensive. Most people don't realize how common simple burglaries are and they tend to occur in clusters where homeowners are complacent. Statistically, one out of four US homes will eventually be burglarized.

Yea, but I would not call someone coming into your home and beating the crap out of you a simple burglary. Your talking assault and battery and depending on how bad possibly attempted murder. It would be different had there been no violence involved.

Yes, I was just reiterating why my daughter's friends mothers friend feels unsafe in riverview, she said these types of crimes are quite frequent. She said just 5 years ago when she lived in Brantenton it was not like that.

It depends on the neighborhood you live in of course. If you're in the trailer park in Riverview you may encounter a few more problems then say an established middle class neighborhood.

Just for clarification. Are you talking about Bradenton, FL or Brandon, FL?
