Hi,
There are tons for rent in North Port. A gated comm. in that school area would be Plantation Lakes off Toledo Blade, or Bob Cat (golf comm.) also off Toledo Blade.
Keep in mind that these come with restrictions and rules that can be hard to follow....keep you grass green or get a fine by the home owners asscociation, city in a drought you cannot water or you get a fine from the city....toys left outside not liked by the homeowners association. On the better side you dont have a junk collector living next door. Or a house near you with unused cars parked all over the yard.

This is the time to rent or buy here. There are so many houses on the market for sale or rent that there is a real surplus. Just be sure that the homeowner is not in preforclosure or in trouble. Many people are renting and having to move because of landlords are losing homes...could by why the rent is cheap.
Make sure the owner was not an investor..they seem to be houses that are in trouble as opposed to someone living here in the home like someone needing to relocate and are renting because the market is down and they cannot sell.

Good Luck! You can get such a great deal now

thanx for the info.
i really dont want the gated community living but im wondering about the homes in neighborhoods that are being rented and bringing values of homes around down because of neglect.
where is horseshoe ave 34286? what subdivision? is it a nice area?
i am hopeing northport is going to be a good choice. it sounds so nice but then again sometimes not so nice with all the negetive posts.
how long have you lived there? its so hard to pass up a nice home for such a great price but i dont want to settle on a nice home and end up in a bad situation.
i appreciate the guidance. i have 2 small children to think of too.

Hi I am a homeowner in North Port with a house for rent or sale. I am in good credit standings and this home isn't far from Cranberry either. If you are interested in moving there let me know I'd be happy to send you pix. This house is immaculate built in 2007

hey again,

We have been for four years. I love the area. North Port is right in the middle of Tampa and Naples. (both about an hour and a half away) Siesta Key is about a forty five min. drive. If your commuting to Sarasota or Fort Myers your looking at an hour commute depending on where you work with traffic.
We actually may be relocating only because of a hard to resist job offer. Otherwise you cannot beat the sunshine! The neighborhoods are nice. People in general I find are nice. I am origianlly from RI and find people are nicer here.....maybe because the sun is always shinning.
you cannot beat the sports here. Sports are year round. Two seasons for baseball, soccer ect. Kids really can excel in whatever sport they want to. North Port is a real family community. The beaches are beautiful.
Where would you be coming from?

sunnirunner,

I also relocated to North Port from RI last fall (coventry) and I agree, the quality of life is much higher here than in RI. (and the cost of living is MUCH lower)

,,,and you're right...people are generally in a much better mood.

Just FYI. Even in the "good neighborhoods" of North Port, it's a good idea to invest in a security system. And 2 of these criminals lived in the gated, golf course community of Sabal Trace.

HeraldTribune.com - News - News stories about Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties in Florida, from the newspapers of record. - HeraldTribune.com

"NORTH PORT — Police arrested two men Thursday for allegedly overpowering a woman in her North Port home and taking thousands of dollars in cash and possessions.

The crime happened in the 5300 block of Andris Court on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, police executed a search warrant on the Sabal Trace Drive house the two men share.
It was the second home invasion this week in North Port, as police face a rising tide of crime in the once-booming city that has been struck hard in the prolonged real estate and construction downturn.

"We're getting hit by more serious crimes as everybody's way of life is going down," said Detective Lt. Kevin Sullivan, head of North Port's criminal investigations division.

Police did not release the victim's name, citing the ongoing investigation.

The woman, whose age was not made public, had her arms tied together with a T-shirt and the assailants covered her head in another T-shirt, police said.

Beron Harvey, 23, and Andrae O'Reilly, 20, face charges of home invasion and grand theft. Harvey faces an additional charge of aggravated assault. The two men were booked into the Sarasota County jail on Thursday afternoon.

Such crimes are coming more frequently in North Port.
On Sunday, three teenagers attacked a family at gunpoint, threatening to shoot a 6-year-old in the head while demanding drugs and money."

North Port is sounding a lot more like Bradenton, unfortunately.
"We're getting hit by more serious crimes as everybody's way of life is going down," said Detective Lt. Kevin Sullivan,
He's right of course and this will be a difficult period for North Port, and the country as a whole to get through.

I can see crime continuing to rise as this recession drags on. People get desperate... no health care, no living wage= more crime and desperation.

It would be foolish to think that this community is safe and that is not...crime will be committed wherever criminals see opportunity.

North Port is sounding a lot more like Bradenton, unfortunately.
If you read the Herald everyday you wouldn't settle anywhere in SW Florida. There paper must be selling great with all the news they come up with. North Port rarely makes the paper. For the amount of people in North Port this type of thing rarely happens.

By the way, I called and left a message on Lt Kevin Sullivan's answering machine this evening. I'm curious if he calls back and if he does what he actually said. The Herald has a knack for misquoting. He won't be back in the office until Monday morning,I'll let you know what he says. Maybe he could make an appearance here and give his opinion.

I'm assuming crime stats are on the rise everywhere. When the economy heads south the crime heads north.

Here's todays headlines on the Herald's website:

DNA under mans fingernails lead detectives to man's killer-Sarasota
Woman fleeing police arrested at I-75 roadblock-Manatee
Bar owner charged in assault of patron-Manatee
Man, 90, attacked in robbery-Bradenton
Ice Cream Man Charged with molesting girls-Sarasota
Pornographer convicted in federal court-Tampa
Arrests in two home invasions-North Port

Like I've said before, it is sad but things like this happen all over. We can look and Parrish, which is a very small town. Clay Moore, a 13 year old boy, was abducted at gunpoint from his bus stop in broad daylight. Thank goodness he escaped from the abductors.

There are whack jobs everywhere thank goodness these are off the street. Great job North Port Police!

The crime rate here is NOT high per person per mile. (or square inch as I like to say) North Port is the fourth largest city in FL and is the most underdeveloped for its size. At full "build out" North Port will be bigger than Tampa. It takes fourty minutes to drive from one end of North Port to the other if your doing the speed limit. Crime here for the most part is petty. When something happens here it makes the news because nothing is going on. I like the fact the "not much is going on".
