Default Best Restaurants in the Sarasota/Siesta Key Area?...
We are headed down there in a week or so. Can you locals please weigh in on the best restaurants in the area? Nothing overly fancy (as this will be a true "family vacation") and does not have to be seafood (but some seafood is good!). Would love to hear about everything from local dives to relatively nice (but family-friendly) restaurants.

Old Packing House Cafe is kind of a quirky, out of the way place in Sarasota. The Melting Pot is another place that's kind of neat. There are also lots of restaurants up and down Main St in Sarasota that are very good. Everytime the kids and I venture up that way we try a different restaurant. If you wanted to venture as far down is Venice, Sharky's on the Pier is pretty good and kid friendly. Here's a list of from my website of many of the restaurants in Sarasota. Ceviche in DT Sarasota is awesome. It's not super fancy, and it's a true tapas restaurant, so it's fun for kids. It's very popular, so if you plan to go, make reservations. As for "dives", I like Casey Key Fish House (listed by SoFLGal) and the Salty Dog that is on the way to Longboat Key.

Check out Troyer's and Yoder's on Bahia Vista. Plain restaurants but great food, terrific salads and be sure to save room for the great desserts. Very interesting area. Troyer's has an amazing bakery.

You can hit some of the places on St Armands too, ChaCha Coconuts is a little pricey but has a nice atmosphere...

Sorry but Cha Cha's is one of the least expensive places on the circle....Pricey would be: The Columbia, Cork, Hemingways, 15 South, Crab & Fin & Cafe L'Europe....

Beach House is fantastic..... you can eat right on the beach and they have a sunset contest everynight where if you guess the right time you get a free bottle of wine.
