Property Development just north of Sarasota Golf Club
We have been looking for a single family home in the Palmer Ranch area of Sarasota, but find that most of the property is well over $400,000 (which is around our max price) So are looking further afield. We have seen a new property development just off Palmer Blvd, north of the Sarasota Golf Club. (Builder - Centex Homes) Property prices for single family home around $349000 for 4 bed, almost 3000sq ft build. Does anyone know this area and what would be your comments. Is it a good area, would you consider living there. All info greatly received.

I live off Palmer, in Sarasota Golf Blvd. It's nice and pretty quiet. Close to where i need to go, shopping, etc, and not right in the city, which i prefer.
I like the advantage of being close to I-75
It's safe, and that's the major thing to me.
I'm sure you'll like it. However, i wouldn'ti want Centex to build my home.

I will second that. I spent many years working for a company that was a sub-contractor for Centex. I would not take a Centex home if it was given to me for free.

Nice quality finish in the kitchen? WTF does that mean? Polish a turd and it is only a highly polished turd. The care & quality are just not there. I have known many Centex customers who ended up in court because their homes had major flaws and Centex could/would not fix them. I am sure there are many happy Centex customers, I just don't happen to know any of them.

Racelady88 is absolutely right.
It may look nice on the surface, but buyer beware when it comes to Centex. From what I understand, during the housing gravy train (2003-2007) Centex cut a lot of corners when it came to quality. They hired mostly lowest bid contractors, some subcontractors were absolutely horrible, and rushed their completions. Cheap materials were used to keep profits higher. Then people had problems when warranty issues arose. Maybe Centex has changed their tune, but I doubt it.

My BIL used to work for them as a contractor, one of the reasons he left, was their sloppy work, unethical treatment of employees, etc, etc, etc....
Stay away from Centex!!

Here's a link to a website that mentions Centex. Doesn't look like too many people are big fans of Centex: Rate Your Builder
