When are you moving? Didn't you buy a house already? What city are you going to live in?
We are not buying right away. We are going to wait til the market settles down a bit and we have to see where the hubby works and how the drive is,etc. The last thing I want to do is move and then he ends up having to drive 1.5 hrs because they move him. We went down for 10 days in June just to look around quickly. Liked the area so we decided it was a good spot. Where are you going to keep your boat? Ohhhhh that's right, you bought in PGI? I remember now. So you have a water front house? That is what we wanted but my Hub would never find a job in areas like that. They are too remote. You work at home so you are lucky! Are you going to sell your house up there? We sold our home waaaaaaaaaaaaay too fast. 2 weeks! UGH and we weren't ready for it to be gone that fast. The hub hadn't even started his application process when we got the offer. Soooooo, we rented 2 storages and off to the Mariott we went. It is costing us a fortune but they take dogs and we were able to rent a penthouse here so it's livable. 2 bedroom, 2 baths, loft, living room, kitchen, etc. BUT we left a 3,000 sq ft home so this is SMALL! LOL We are hoping we are out of here by the end of Oct. |

I know that some lenders want to see some steady employment history before they feel comfortable lending, so you need to watch that. You may want to get your loan commitment set up before you leave. Some banks will do that if you are in a good financial position. They did that for me, I got an approved commitment so that I could do anything until December before needing to update things. You may want to check into that. I don't work at home right now, but I could, and I plan on weaning myself away from the office over time starting in a couple weeks, but still staying with my friends that helped me start the business that I sold to them last October. You may have sold your home fast, but that really is a better problem to have. I hope you make your time table of being able to get there end of October. But hey, if you have to stay till then, you should enjoy the fall time of year - it is great until the snow begins to fly in December. You know once he's finished, and you start the move down, you will think that the whole thing went so fast that it was a blur, really! I started this process last November, so its been about a year, and thinking back over all the things that have happened, and all the things I've learned, houses I've looked at, people I've met and spoken to, emotional swings both high and low that I've gone through, I would do it all again in a minute. It is a process, it can get you down if you let it, but don't anything worth having is worth working for. You'll appreciate it that much more It is true for everyone. It can be the long hard climb to the pinacle of a career, or trying to have children after trying for years, or starting the process to run a marathon, planning a move, it can be many things, but for sure, if you can enjoy and embrase the struggle you will value the final achievement that much more. ![]() Oh, and there will be set-backs along the way, so expect them, work through them, and over come them, they can be frustrating, but look at them and smile knowing everything goes in cycles and it will get better. ![]() Life brings you things . . . are they opportunities - I think - Yes. You should too. |

Big House~ Oh I thought you were permanently moving down. but if you enjoy the 4 seasons, then it will be nice to have a home up north too. It's nice that you are self employed so you don't have to worry about transferring etc. I remember us talking awhile back about that.
At anyrate, you sound like you have a beautiful home down there so you will have a great place to hang out for the Winter ![]() We've never had a problem qualifying for loans because from what they always told us, as long as you had enough down and stayed in the same field, the employment length wasn't an issue. He's been a Pharmacist for 23 yrs. and he is not changing employeers. Just transferring. But then again with the market today, who knows LOL. But we really don't want to buy now anyway. we have to make sure we chose the right area AND the market stabilizes more before we would be ready to commit. We sold a condo in Hawaii and lost about 400K on it, sold a home here and lost, lost on Apple Stock,Dell, lost on Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, etc. A few yrs back we lost on Enron. Yes, we can pick them LOL So for now we are gun shy and don't want to buy for awhile. We hate snow and the Winter so we are ready to get out of here. We have been living here since Aug 5th. Let me tell you, it's getting really, really small in here! LOL I'm just about ready to leave and head down and put the things back in storage down there until I find a place. So, we'll see what happens. It can't be too much longer, can it? ![]() |

I wish the OP luck with finding a nice rental. When we were looking for one in the Venice-Nokomis-Osprey area it was slim pickins in March 2008. The nicer places seem to be seasonal so the owners get to use it too. We looked at a lot of dark, older, not shabby but kinda depressing homes. We also wanted to rent for a year because we couldn't find the right house to buy.
Fate intervened and we bought a house. I tried Horse&Carriage and many many other rental agencies but inventory was not good at that time. Good luck.Of course beware of bank repos. You can pay your landlord everything up front and still be thrown out because the bank repo'd the house. |

Thanks for the info. I've noticed that the better areas have "slim pickins" maybe that's how you know they are more desirable. And thanks for the tip on the repo's, that would be horrible! |

I was like - that was as quick as I've ever heard of - then I saw that the first part was part of an earlier post. I'm sure you will find something. Good luck, I hope you find something. If you have any questions - this is the place to post them. There is also a lot of good information on this site already for you to read. ![]() |
