You could find an almost new or new home in North Port for around $900 per month. Most of North Port has pretty good access to I-75 to get up to Sarasota. The only problem with that is the drive to Sarasota would be around 40 minutes. I live in North Port and really like it here. I think it's definitely worth checking out while you're down. The average age in NP is 38 and like Carbondated said, there are many young families.

Hi! There is a reason North Port is so cheap. I would stay in Venice as there are some great rentals available at this time. Best Wishes!

You will have a much better chance of finding a great rental in your price range "near the highway", in North Port. Venice is known to be more expensive and has less annual rental stock than North Port. In your price range, you may be able to find a home for rent in South Venice. South Venice is not near the highway and would add another 10-15 minutes to your commute. So in fact, a home near the highway in North Port may actually save you commuting time.

Hi FloriraUSA,
We live in central Mass but bought in Sarasota last April and come down here every 6 weeks or so for a week. We are 55 and 54 and the kids are grown. You will love it here. I grew up in Boston, and the winters are murder, but nothing was as bad as four winters in Chicago.
Some people think it is hot here, but fortunately, I am not bothered by the heat. A heat wave in Boston is every bit as "bad" as heat here. But as I said, the heat doesn't affect me. I cannot give you much advice about renting. There are very seasoned people on this forum who give sound advice.
One thing that does take a bit of adjustment is that the looooong days of June ( as well as the short days of December) don't exist here as Florida is closer to the equator. Daylight ranges from 10-13 hours.
One toe on Siesta Key Beach and you'll be hooked.
Also, there are some people who think people around here are a bit cold and standoffish. We don't find that at all. There are plenty of nice people here as well as in Boston. 90% of people react to you the way you react to them.
Good Luck,

This is great News! We would love to have 10-13 hours of daylight, we just can't have another Winter here! I getup at 530AM it's Dark and Cold and when I get home around 4:00PM is also Dark and Cold, not mentioning that many times I have to clean the snow before I parked my car! You know how it is!
Thanks for the feedback! I can't wait to wake up every day and see the sun shine, and see my child playing outside with other kids.

I also live in the Boston area, and bought a condo at Central Park II. I love it because I can walk into town and to great restaurants, shopping nearby and the movie theater. (I hate having to drive everywhere.) It's also a short drive to Lido Beach and St. Armands Circle, but the prices aren't over the top like so many other places near downtown. Good luck!
