Welcome fellow Bostonian! I too moved to Fl from Massachusetts 4 yrs ago because of the taxes, winters etc and love living in North Port. It's about 30 mins to Sarasota if you live closer to the highway and I find the drive not bad unless there is an accident on the highway. Once you live here long enough you will know how to take detours around them if that happens. I don't have any young children anymore, but from what I read in the papers, it seems to be very kid friendly. Also, most of the schools are new and it seems like they have to keep adding more and more schools because of the growth we have had over the past few years. I find North Port close enough to the beach, but far enough inland to hopefully avoid any flooding should their be a hurricane and storm surge. One suggestion I have is that when you choose a rental, make sure they have hurricane shutters so you won't have to worry about "hunkering down" should a storm head this way. As for the heat in the summer, each year I am here I find my blood thins a little more and it doesn't bother me as much. Having a pool helps alot too. The first year here I never wore long pants all year, now I am glad I kept some of those jeans and sweaters from when I moved. Also, last winter was the first winter I had to put my heat on. With the price of oil in Massachusetts, I am so glad I left when I did. I hope you find that you enjoy living here as much as I do. I know I will never move back to Massachusetts.

Hello,
It's great to hear that! I was there last week and didn't want to come back to Boston. When I got to Boston I realized that I belong to FL. I rented a nice place right by University Pkwy in Sarasota, I liked very much, closed to the highway and I will have all the amenities including a Heated pool!
I can't wait to move, we're going to leave Boston December 1 .
I just hope no snow until December!!! LOL
Thank you!

Hi FloripaUSA,
I am glad to hear that you are moving forward with your dream! I have always wanted to move to florida and am looking at the Sarasota area for a move within the next few years. I would be interested in knowing what you think about Sarasota. Good for you for getting out before another winter settles in here! I have lived in MA and NH, and am tired of the snow myself!

Hi, I will keep you posted! When I wake up this morning with Ice on my car and having to take my 3 year old out in this weather (28F).... I did wish that I was down to FL already! I know that this 5 weeks, will be very painful! But it will happen! "Dec 1" Thank GOD.
It took us five years to decided 100% that we would like to move south! After we spent one month vacation in Brazil last January with Beach and Nice weather, seeing our Kid running around all day we came back to US Knowing that FL was the right Fit! But it's not a easy move! But we're doing it!
Thank you,

As smiledoc noted post an update of your route and experiences. I'm leaving in a week for a hopefully un eventful drive down with my boat in tow. I hope you have an opportunity to give us an update before I leave. It has been fun watching the clock tick down as you're more transpired.
Good luck in Sarasota!
