Default Need recommendation for a good doctor in Sarasota

Hi,
We moved to Sarasota a few weeks ago and have no family or friends in Florida to seek advice from. I need to find a good family practioner in or around our area. Does anyone have a family doctor that they trust and could recommend. Any help would be greatly appreciated otherwise I am sort of stuck picking one out of the phone book.
Thanks, Jody

Hi Jody
I had the same question but got no answers here. I found a website called RateMDs.com and found a doctor by reading peoples postings there.
It would be great if people on THIS website (city-data) would post how they like their doctors, chiropractors, dentists, etc. on THAT website. Hint-hint.
Good luck
Denise

I think I can speak with pretty good authority about dentistry. One thing for sure. I would NEVER and I mean NEVER go to a dentist who doesn't use magnification. A friend of mine said it best: "I am sure you can do good dentistry without magnification, you just can't do it on me." I prefer a headlamp also, although some (but not many) dental lights are adequate. There are other pointers I can share, if desired. I personally do not know any dentists in Sarasota but I know an excellent dentist in Lutz who I would go to if and when I needed dental care in Florida. A one hour drive to see a good, trustworthy dentist/doctor/lawyer etc is time well spent. Obviously, here in central Mass I have my own team. I would NEVER go to a chain like Gentle Dental, Aspen Dental, Coast Dental etc. That is not to say that there are not good dentists there. However, many of the dentists there today are gone tomorrow. I like continuity of care. I don't want to be accused of slander or libel so I will leave it at that. BTW, private practitioners are not immune to temptation as well. However IMO , a private practitioner has a greater likelihood of trying to maintain a stable clientèle.
I tell my patients that you can only have one master in this business, either your wallet or your patient. I have chosen to make the patient my master. And guess what. The wallet has taken care of itself. It might not be as thick as the other guy's wallet, but believe me, it is thick enough.
Here's some of the junk we get in the mail and email on how to screw patients. If you think your dentist (mechanic, plumber etc.) has this mentality you should make a change.
Read this and puke: Dental news, advice, and opinion
Believe me, I could write a book.

PS: Please do not PM me with specific questions regarding your specific dental treatment. I cannot make a diagnosis over the internet. I will be more than happy to give general advice on what to look for in a dentist, but any treatment decisions are between YOU and your dentist.

I received some input to my post on chiropractors:

Thanks everyone for the primary care doc recommendations. We're still looking for one and I think many of these names are on our insurance.
